2. Battleground 2016, Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins (WWE Championship Match)
The first, and only time, that all three Shield members have faced off in a triple threat match, was at Battleground 2016.

The build to the match was perfect, with Rollins defeated Reigns at Money in the Bank to become WWE Champion, only for Ambrose to cash in on him moments later to steal his crown, meaning that all three Shield members had held the belt in one night, and that each one held a legitimate claim for a title match.
The whole affair was slightly dampened by the fact that Reigns had been suspended during the build-up, meaning that we were perhaps robbed of some of the potential tension in the bout but it was still an excellent encounter.
The match featured some excellent moments, including a brief reunion between Ambrose and Rollins to take out Reigns, and the finishing sequence was a joy to watch.
Reigns ate the pin, likely as a result of the aforementioned suspension, and fans are eagerly awaiting another chance to see the three men square off in the ring.

1. Extreme Rules 2016, Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles (WWE Championship Match)
After putting on an excellent display one month prior at Payback, AJ Styles and Roman Reigns would go on to have one of the best matches of the year at Extreme Rules 2016.
With even more build that their previous encounter, Reigns and AJ put on an incredible bout, one which even got the audience to acknowledge what an effort Reigns was putting in.
Like their previous encounter, this match featured plenty of interference from The Club and The Usos, but it did nothing to damage the finished product. This was one of the best matches of both men’s WWE careers, and hopefully, it is only a matter of time before the two men are allowed a third encounter in the WWE.
