Sasha Banks, Bayley, & Ember Moon vs. The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, & Liv Morgan)
Result: The Riott Squad defeated Sasha Banks, Bayley, & Ember Moon via pinfall
Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars
I call this the “we know you’re all really good, but the championship picture is full” six woman tag match. How many times are we going to keep getting this same match over and over? It was this exact setup that led to the real explosion between Sasha and Bayley in June.
The opening and closing to this one were straight fire. The cohesion of the Riott Squad is pretty special, even if Ruby is clearly the stud of the group. Liv and Logan are both perfectly fine, and starting to come more into their own as “WWE Superstars” as opposed to NXT talent or indie darlings. But Ruby is their glue, as I’ve mentioned over and over since she came back.
I would have liked to see Ember do a bit more in this one, as she really just had the opening dive and the suplex spot at the end. Besides that, she got trotted out to stand on the ring apron and make faces as Bayley got her butt kicked.
But all the opening dives set up what could have been a great match, and it faltered a bit in the middle before Sasha got tagged back in. The chaos surrounding the closing sequence made it a lot more interesting, and the Riott Kick to finish Banks off was magnificent.
Now that it’s over, and SummerSlam is done with, maybe these six superstars can do something else?
