Someone Hit Reset on The Game
You know, all weekend, I’ve been asking myself, “Where’s Triple H?” No introduction at TakeOver on Saturday, no appearance at SummerSlam. Sure, he did a post-TakeOver conference call, and he posed for some social media pictures with a few new champions. But I’ve been conditioned to treat him as the most important person in WWE.
And boy, were my prayers answered! Not only did Trips show up on WWE Raw tonight, he spent a good chunk of time at the start of hour two putting himself over. It was, to quote Michael Cole, “vintage” Triple H.
All kidding aside, this was some of the most self-aggrandizing promo work Triple H has ever done. We’re a family friendly site, so I can’t even use the words to describe it that I want to. But Triple H made it abundantly clear that he truly is the most important man to ever set foot in the ring. Without him, things just aren’t the same.
Yeah, he put over Taker, and HBK, too. But please don’t delude yourself into thinking that this was some long, personal journey to find inner peace with his legacy or whatever. This was Triple H outright stating, “No matter what happens after I’m gone, it won’t be as good as it was when I was here.”
It sucks to even think that, because Triple H very clearly believes in what he’s doing with NXT for the future. But to come out in front of a Raw crowd and say, “What we did was special,” it just seems too self-indulgent for my liking. This is why Seth Rollins said what he said recently about “not needing The Rock” — and Triple H just put his foot down and said, “Just you wait and see, boy.”
Oh, and thanks for encouraging him, Brooklyn. That’s just what he needed.
