NJPW Destruction in Hiroshima Results, Grades, and Analysis
This match was 30 minutes of hard hitting action as Ishii and Omega tore the house down. This was an incredible match that saw both men stretched to their limits. Absolutely fantastic. After the match, Ibushi came in and helped Omega ice his head. You have to wonder if Ibushi is going to be challenging for that title sometime in the future, having his win over Omega. The one guy Omega has never been able to finish is him, so it seems like a natural direction at some point. Ibushi strapped the title around Omega’s waist, but gave it a good long look before he did so.

We’re definitely getting Omega/Ibushi again at some point. Omega said that he thought he was the best in the world, but Ibushi is really the best. Omega said that he would fight him again and put the title on the line. Ibushi said it’s time to keep our promise (the promise that they won’t fight again). Omega said regardless of where he goes, the Golden Lovers will stay together. He said Ibushi is his best friend and no matter where he goes, they will stick together. Ibushi was eyeing that title the whole time though. When both men walked out, Ibushi pointed at Omega, but his point also happened to be right at the title. NJPW knows that this is a match everyone wants to see, with a title on the the line.
In the press conference, Omega said that “I am pro wrestling. I think that meant that I’m the best by far.” Tanahashi said he disagreed with Omega’s ideology, and Omega said that the only thing wrong with NJPW is Tanahashi’s old guard attitude. Omega praised Ishii, Naito, and Okada, but said Tanahashi was on his way out. He said Tanahashi got lucky winning the G1 in an easy A Block, and that he would fight him right now, but he’s going to wait and see what happens with Tanahashi and Okada. NJPW looks to be setting the stage for Wrestle Kingdom with this promo. Tanahashi will have to prove he’s still the Ace in NJPW and try to take the title from Omega.
Final Thoughts
Show Rating: **** (4 stars out of 5)
This was an excellent show from a storytelling perspective. There were a ton of stories driven forward here with the matches, as NJPW starts to setup the rest of their year. It would take an entire article (which I might write tomorrow) to break down all the happenings, but suffice to say that there are big things in motion for NJPW right now. NJPW has so many different feuds building at the same time, that it makes NJPW absolutely must watch. Kenny Omega is clearly building two matches right now: His inevitable match with Kota Ibushi over the title, and a match with Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom. When the first match happens, we don’t know, but don’t be surprised if it comes after Wrestle Kingdom.
We also saw the feud between Naito and Suzuki get elevated even more as Suzuki essentially tried to murder Naito tonight. GoD called out The Young Bucks, setting up their match. Tanahashi and Okada was furthered due to the tag match, and Jay White is clearly vying for control of CHAOS, even bossing Okada around. Ibushi is also building a match up with Ospreay, which will steal the show, to be sure, whenever it happens. Ibushi/Ospreay might easily be the NJPW match of the year, if not for all of wrestling too. This is going to be a very busy fall, as NJPW starts to look towards January 4th. Everything is coming to a head at the Tokyo Dome, and every single match matters leading into it. We’re in for quite the ride, my friends.
