WWE Royal Rumble 2019: 5 Early Candidates To Win Women’s Rumble
Sasha Banks
This is highly unlikely, but I’ve always been in favor of fans holding out hope for their dream stories in WWE, even if WWE may see more appeal elsewhere. Sasha Banks is the most respected women’s wrestler in WWE when it comes to fan perception, and most of the best women’s matches in WWE history have involved Sasha. Her bouts with Bayley in NXT will stand the test of time as classics, and she’s had some underrated gems with the likes of Asuka on Raw.
Last year, Banks was the biggest standout in the Women’s Rumble match, lasting longer than anyone else after entering the match as the No. 1 participant. In a lot of ways, she’s the “rock” of the Raw Women’s Division, even if fans are mostly used to seeing her and Bayley team up against some variation of the Riott Squad, perhaps with Dana Brooke or Ember Moon thrown into a six-woman tag match for good measure.
If Banks were to win the Women’s Rumble against the odds, it would be a sweet moment for many WWE fans. Furthermore, a match between Banks and Rousey would almost certainly be the best possible match involving Rousey from an in-ring standpoint. Banks’s guile, technical wrestling ability, selling, and hold-nothing-back approach would work well with Rousey’s more restrained, efficient style on offense. They’d put on a clinic and open eyes when it comes to showcasing technical wrestling in the main event of WrestleMania.
It seems like Banks and Rousey have a great deal of mutual respect for each other, and while it would seem out-of-nowhere for Banks to get this magnitude of a match, it wouldn’t exactly be undeserved. She is, after all, a four-time Raw Women’s Champion and has never been outshined in any of her feuds.
