3. Why wasn’t Asuka picked to face Ronda Rousey?

Fate would not let us have Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey, for now. Instead, as we found out last night, Charlotte Flair will battle Rousey on behalf of her former best friend and current SmackDown Women’s champion, Becky Lynch. This came as a result of Lynch not being medically cleared after suffering a potential concussion and a broken face (h/t fightful.com).

Lynch would come out last night to announce the same and then to pick a replacement for her. Without much confusion, she would make her pick: Charlotte Flair.

Now, Charlotte vs Ronda is a money match. It will be as good as Becky vs Rousey. In fact, this match could for sure find its place on any WrestleMania card. However, one thing that this match lacks is the sheer animosity and intensity that Becky vs Rousey had. You can’t expect to generate that with no time for any buildup.

Moreover, Flair’s character oozes charisma rather than intensity. This is where Asuka comes in. She possess a kind of raw, natural animosity, even when she goes through a soft opponent. Imagine the kind of energy she would generate had she been the one chosen to face Lynch. It was evident that the crowd was hot at the very idea of Asuka being Becky’s replacement.

Moreover, picking her would have saved the trouble of forgetting all the personal history and animosity Lynch and Flair crafted up to this moment.
