2. Asuka’s Role In The SmackDown Women’s Championship Match

The two superstars that have been tearing the house down for the SmackDown women’s division as of late have been Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.  Both women are carrying a ton of momentum heading into TLC, but the more last-minute addition of another game-changer has, indeed, changed the game.

Asuka has had a strange 2018.  She began the year by winning the first-ever all-women’s Royal Rumble match and appeared to be in line for a championship win at WrestleMania 34.  However, a loss to Charlotte at the granddaddy of them all broke her two-plus year undefeated streak and since then, she has not been put in adequate positions to recover from that first loss.  That might be on the mend, however.

The Empress Of Tomorrow won a battle royal a few weeks ago to join the SmackDown Women’s Championship match at TLC, and the match will now be a Triple Threat Match between Lynch, Charlotte, and Asuka with the match being contested under Tables, Ladders, and Chairs rules.  This first-time match for the women’s division should be huge, but the late addition of Asuka has changed everything.

The most recent episode of SmackDown ended with Asuka standing tall over both The Man and The Queen, and that’s no accident.  The WWE is treating Asuka as a serious threat in this match despite the storyline still being centered around Lynch and Charlotte.  It still feels like Lynch should walk away with her title still in hand, but don’t’ count out Asuka to make a big difference.

Maybe she is just there to change things up, but The Empress Of Tomorrow has added a completely different wrinkle to the SmackDown Women’s Championship picture heading into this first-time ever matchup.
