30-Woman Royal Rumble Match

The second of three confirmed matches will be the 30-Woman Royal Rumble Match, only the second in WWE history. Last year’s inaugural women’s Rumble was truly special, and it set the tone for a tradition that should have been started long ago. The match featured 18 main roster superstars, two women from NXT, and ten returning veterans. Several superstars had great moments, but it was Asuka who emerged victorious in that inaugural women’s Royal Rumble.

While Asuka came up short at WrestleMania 34, she continued to have a strong year and will close it out as SmackDown Women’s Champion after defeating Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair at TLC. While some stars certainly have their eyes on winning this year’s Rumble and taking on Asuka, the attention so far has all been on Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. After escalating tensions between Rousey, Lynch, and Flair hit a boiling point, it was Rousey who showed up at TLC and cost both Lynch and Flair the match.

Now, The Man and The Queen are looking for retribution by getting their hands on The Baddest Woman on the Planet. That makes Lynch and Flair definite favorites heading towards the Rumble with both looking to pick up a win and challenge Rousey at WrestleMania 35, but they won’t be alone. At a glance I counted 22 potential entrants who are already on the Raw or SmackDown roster. Add in new faces from NXT and surely a few veteran surprises again, and the women’s Royal Rumble will be as unpredictable as ever this year.

A sleeper favorite going into the match could be Carmella, who earned the coveted number thirty entry spot by winning Mixed Match Challenge along with her partner R-Truth. While entering last hasn’t always been a boon for competitors, it certainly can be a big help to enter fresh while everyone else has been worn down by the match. Carmella already proved herself a capable opportunist with the Women’s Money in the Bank Contract, and this could be another opportunity for The Princess of Staten Island to make her mark.
