On WWE Raw, Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre will team up against Roman Reigns and a mystery partner. But who will that partner be? I pick five options.

Roman Reigns, the big dog, the founder of the Roman Empire, the greatest hair in wrestling history, will be tagging with The Undertaker against Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre at Extreme Rules. We know this. What we don’t know is who his partner will be on WWE Raw this week.

In the build up to the pay per view, WWE announced that Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre would compete in a tag match against Roman Reigns and a mystery partner.

Logically, this could easily turn into a handicap match. Reigns is no stranger to handicap matches. He lost his United States championship to Chris Jericho in a handicap match. He’s faced the odds before. He’s won, he’s lost, et cetera.

Do you remember when the three members of The Shield took on the entire WWE roster? Yeah, that was definitely a thing.

However, there are a surprising amount of options for tag team partners.

Shane McMahon has a lot of enemies. The Undertaker has a lot of friend. Even Roman Reigns has allies all across both rosters. Ambrose might have left, but the hounds of justice have had many people stand alongside them in their time.

So who’s it going to be? Who benefits when you step into a ring with Drew McIntyre; the Scottish Psychopath himself? Usually nobody, though I have to say that McIntyre seems to have lost something of himself in this particular allegiance. Who dares to step in the ring with the literal best in the world?

I’ve picked five names who might stand alongside Mister Believe That in their collective quest for the one two three. Let me know how you think I did, and how right I may or may not be.

5. Seth Rollins

This one might be almost too easy, but the WWE Universal champion remains the single strongest ally that Roman Reigns has. The Shield might be dead, but long live The Shield.

We’ve seen Kurt Angle, we’ve seen Triple H, we even briefly saw AJ Styles as a member of The Shield, but Roman and Seth’s brotherhood seems to be truly unbreakable.

One way or another, the Seth Rollins vs Baron Corbin feud ends at Extreme Rules. This could be the beginning of a move towards a feared Rollins vs McMahon feud, or even another run at what’s been a very successful Rollins vs McIntyre feud.

Drew McIntyre actually holds a lot of wins over the current Universal champion. That could be an interesting one.

As powerful as a reunion between these two men would be, the elephant in the room might just be too strong to ignore. At its worst, we could end up with chants for Jon Moxley, but even if the audience is exceptionally generous, it would still be hard to ignore the uncomfortable pairing.

That said, it would probably be a very good match. For those parts that don’t involve Shane McMahon of course.

4. Finn Balor

The extraordinary who does extraordinary yadda yadda yadda. Finn Balor is definitely an outlier as possibilities go, but Balor has been shown to have a strong sense of justice and he could definitely afford the added TV time that he would get from a feud with the best in the world.

The current Intercontinental champion has not done much of anything since winning the title back from Bobby Lashley at Wrestlemania.

Some of this is down to potential feudees being unavailable, but it may be even more down to air time on both shows being swallowed up by the acting wild card rule. This might just be a way to make something happy for Finn.

It would of course result in Finn falling foul of Shane. It would keep Shane away from Kofi Kingston and the WWE title at least. I’m also quite excited by the idea of a Demon King vs a Drew McIntyre.

This might also be an outside route to a Demon King vs a Dead Man. I know a lot of people very excited by that concept.

3. Kane

Politics is a funny old game.

Imagine a world in which an acting mayor in America appears on WWE programming. I’m sure this would be stranger if not for how crazy the last few years have been.

Kane, the brother of The Undertaker, would be perfectly capable of standing in for his brother, and he’s no stranger to the occasional one off appearance.

Kane tagged with The Undertaker against Triple H and Shawn Michaels recently. The connection has always been there, and as long as he’s wearing his mask, he’s an ideal partner for Reigns.

There’d be no long term feud in play here. Glenn Jacobs is a very busy man now. The man’s got a lot to run, and not much time to go about having scripted fights with McMahons.

The major selling point here is to have someone who could come in, lay down for the pin and then vanish into the ether like he never came.

Kane is also the option that advertises The Undertaker the most. The Undertaker is supposedly banned from the building Monday night, but when it comes to the American Badass there are no limits to when or how he might appear.

2. Elias

If there’s one thing we know about Roman Reigns, it’s that he has a lot of experience with the odds. The odds keep stacking higher and higher, until they seem almost impossible to overcome. Elias would be just another odd.

Shane McMahon has a lot of stroke. He could make sure that nobody in the locker room is willing to step up and compete on Roman’s behalf.

Then, when all hope seems lost, Elias could step up into the gap, resulting in yet another long, sustained beat down of Roman. After all, if there’s one thing Roman needs it’s regular beating to make him look vulnerable.

Elias hasn’t been seen on our screens very often recently. He’s had a couple of two out of three falls matches, but he hasn’t delivered in the “ladies and gentlemen, Elias” moments that he used to do. The songs, the pomp and circumstance, they’re strangely absent recently.

Like Kane, this is really a one note moment that will add to the upcoming tag match without going into any particular feud in the future.

Sometimes though, that’s all you need. Keep things interesting. Keep things ticking over. Keep people with potential on TV.

1. The Miz

To be blunt, I think we can all very confidently say that it’s going to be The Miz.

More from WWE

The storyline is already in place. The Miz has returned with a vengeance recently, determined to take down Shane McMahon again but blocked from doing so every time by a henchman.

There is very definitive unfinished business to be had, and this offers The Miz an opportunity to get his hands on the slipperiest of McMahons.

They’ll find a way to get his dad involved too, you can be sure.

Unfortunately for The Miz, he hasn’t exactly had a promising babyface run thus far. It’s looking increasingly like we might get another run at Miz vs McMahon come SummerSlam, but there’s no sign of a winning run coming the A Lister’s way any time soon.

Hopefully this match could kick off that run.

So who do you think will be lining up at Roman Reigns’ side? Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter and I hope you enjoy the match whoever it ends up being.
