WWE superstar Shelton Benjamin has seemed a bit off in recent weeks on SmackDown Live, but here are a few suggestions that might help him find some clarity.
What is going on with Shelton Benjamin? Two weeks in a row on WWE SmackDown he was asked a question to which he gave no answer. He looked around like he was hiding something or possibly going crazy, and then he left the interview.
Maybe he’s stressed for not being on TV often. Maybe he hasn’t gotten over messing up his opportunity to win the WWE 24/7 Championship when he grabbed the belt without pinning the champ. Maybe he wants out of his contract.
Who knows?
There’s no way to know exactly what Shelton Benjamin is struggling with right now, but I do have some suggestions that might help him come back down to earth.
1. Take some time away from screens
In the digital age, it’s becoming more and more difficult to stay away from screens, and being in professional wrestling does not make it any easier.
There is, for one, the constant demand to be active on social media. Between all of the other social media platforms WWE boasts about leading (whether you believe them or not), it can take a toll on your eyesight. Remember that Benjamin was involved in the 24/7 title chase, so social media is a part of the job.
Where is the champion? Who is the champion? He needs to know and the best way is keeping up-to-date on WWE social media. Terrible for your eyes.
Plus, as we see all the time, wrestlers watch TV at a weird angle to give the camera room to frame both the wrestler and the ongoing match. To watch at that angle, your eyes will definitely be strained.
So remember the 20-20-20 rule: for every 20 minutes of screen time, take 20 seconds to look at something that’s 20 feet away.
Bonus 20: break for longer than 20 seconds and stand up to move around if you can.
2. Eat six small meals throughout the day
In all likeliness, Shelton Benjamin is already doing this. Many WWE superstars are very strict with their diet. But, just in case, he should look into separating his meals.
Most of us eat three meals a day, which is natural for us considering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some health professionals have suggested cutting up these meals and spreading them out for a plethora of added health benefits. [I’m not a doctor]
If one is dealing with acid reflux, which can lead to heartburn and stomach issues, eating six smaller meals a day can help keep down the amount of stomach acid inside you at a time. Another benefit is that six smaller meals had help increase your metabolism, which can help keep your weight in check. Plus, all the extra food spread out can help with energy distribution. [Still not a doctor]
With Benjamin seeming antsy and anxious, this could lead to some health issues and the above benefits could help Senor Benjamin. Stay Gold, pal. [No MD for me]
3. Spend some time with family
When you are going through things, it can weigh on you. Life is stressful, friends can be busy, you can be tempted by vices or procrastination. In rough times that could leave you speechless like Benjamin, it can be beneficial to go back to your roots and spend some quality time with the family.
Now, I know that not everyone has a great relationship with their blood family, so feel free to put in whatever version of family you have. The point of this is that the people that were there for you in your hardest times will be able to support you. They know you before your successes, and they know you before the pain and obstacles you have to go through.
This is why I am suggesting Shelton go back home and spend some quality time with his family. He has had a rough run recently with sporadic TV spots. If anyone knows what he is going through and can support him, it’s Benjamin’s mom.
4. Try some meditation
Breathe. Breathe in the air. Don’t be afraid to care.

That’s my advice to Shelton Benjamin. With the constant travel wrestlers are notorious for having to deal with, having to pay for their own accommodations, and the stresses of being inside a wrestling ring when performing, the job can be hectic. Add crowd reactions that can be unfavorable and on top of that everyone at social media yelling at you, Yowie Wowie.
What can Senor Benjamin do to deal with everything? Well, just as wrestlers take care of their physical health, he has to deal with his mental health. Our mental health is a crucial aspect to our lives that most of us seem to forget about. This includes managing stress, working through emotions, saying no to bad thoughts and triggers for anxiety. The best way to deal with this meditation.
It’s not an easy feat to master off the bat; meditation is something you need to work on. Luckily, Shelton has time on his hands when not on TV and in between travel. Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal might even be able to help Benjamin find some inner peace.
There are guided meditations available all over the place, whether it is a class to go to or an app to download. I personally like Buddhify, but you have to pay for it so don’t feel pressured. (This article is NOT sponsored by Buddhify.)
5. Go to therapy
Benjy Baby, I’ll tell you what I tell everyone: therapy changed my life.
We are told that we should visit the doctor one a year, the dentist twice a year, our cars need inspections once a year, but why don’t we talk about our mental health? We are our own vehicles, and our brains need maintenance and check-ups.
I know wrestlers don’t get benefits like health insurance, which is a shame. So until they unionize and get the benefits they deserve, Shelton will be happy to know that therapists aim to help people.
If you contact a therapist (no administration of drugs, just healthy discussion and discord), there is a plethora of professionals that work on sliding scale. If Benjy explains his situation, he can find a therapist that will reason with him and offer him a reasonable price for sessions.
WWE might even be able to get Dr. Shelby back to help Shelton Benjamin through his struggles right now.
It may seem like a hassle or maybe a luxury, but your mind is just as important as your body. We love you, Benjy Boo. Just take care of yourself and let us know whenever you are ready to talk.
