Rey Mysterio, one of the most charismatic United States Champions in WWE history, is not yet booked for a match at WWE TLC 2019. The following will predict three possible opponents for the United States Champion on a PPV that is surely not well known for tender loving care.
Rey Mysterio has had quite a journey since getting drafted to the flagship show of WWE Monday Night Raw. When he continued his WrestleMania feud with Samoa Joe, he won the United States Championship at Money in the Bank.
Sadly, he got injured after winning the championship and was compelled to relinquish the championship to Joe on Raw in June.
Ever since then, many fans were wondering if Mysterio would think of retiring due to his many injuries and if he would ever get back into the United States Championship picture. It is quite prophetic that his son, Dominick, dissuaded him from retiring and that Mysterio dethroned AJ Styles for the United States Championship five months later on Raw.
Although many naysayers would view Mysterio’s recent championship victory as a consolation prize for losing his WWE Championship match to Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2019, this victory could also be seen as a way of getting back the championship he never lost.
Of course, it would have meant more if Mysterio defeated Lesnar as payback for the mauling Lesnar perpetrated against his son, Dominick.
However, it is clear that Rey Mysterio has drawn his attention away from the WWE Championship picture, and the following will identify and pontificate three potential opponents for his United States Championship at WWE TLC 2019.
3. AJ Styles
AJ Styles was actually a decent United States Champion. He brought a lot of prestige back to the championship and deserves to win it back, if he ever gets the chance.
Before he lost the championship to Mysterio on last week’s Raw, he retained the championship against the likes of Ricochet, Cedric Alexander, Braun Strowman, and Humberto Carillo.
Throughout all of these feuds during his reign, Styles has excelled as a trailblazer in every sense of the word. His in-ring psychology, promo work, and backstage segments had been very entertaining.
Although it’s impossible not to feel elated for Mysterio’s title victory, it’s also saddening that Styles had to drop the United States Championship so soon.
Hopefully, Styles gets his championship rematch against Mysterio on the road to WWE TLC 2019.
When considering Mysterio’s ephemeral title reigns throughout his career, it would not be too far-fetched to witness Styles winning the championship back from him at WWE TLC 2019, and dropping the championship to someone else on the road to WrestleMania 36.
However, many WWE fans alternatively want Mysterio to have a lengthy reign and pass the torch to Dominick since his WWE career could potentially very well come to an end in 2020.
Thankfully, there is one superstar who could very well stop Styles in his tracks, and his name is Randy Orton.
2. Randy Orton
When Rey Mysterio dethroned AJ Styles on Raw last week, he did it with some much-needed assistance from Randy Orton. Many may see Orton’s assistance as a sign of a babyface turn, but he was perhaps simply getting revenge for what happened earlier in the night.
Apparently, Orton was upset with The O.C. screwing him in the fatal four way number one contender’s match for the United States Championship that occurred before the actual championship match. Orton literally had the match won after delivering an RKO to Drew McIntyre, but his leg was pulled from Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson right before the three-count.

Nonetheless, it looks like Styles now has a problem with Orton, but Mysterio also owes Orton for his altruism. Maybe the honorable Mysterio will offer to put the championship on the line against Orton at WWE TLC 2019.
If this occurs, it would be a neat revisit to their feud from SmackDown in 2018. It is worth noting that Orton has not won a championship this year as of yet, especially after signing a new contract with the WWE.
For a legend like him who seems to usually win at least one championship per year, don’t be surprised if he ends up dethroning Mysterio outta nowhere, instead of Styles.
1. Andrade
There is one superstar on the Raw roster who has been at the top for the mid card with continuous victories week after week, but has not yet received a United States Championship opportunity.
His name is Andrade, the arch nemesis of the current United States Champion Rey Mysterio.
When these two wrestle, it’s like heaven on Earth. No one has topped their chemistry inside that squared circle, and a match between them is exactly what the United States Championship needs. Indeed, these two have wrestled many times, but never in a high stake match with the championship on the line on a PPV, like WWE TLC 2019.
This title match could be a great opportunity for Andrade to not only win his first main roster singles title, but also for Mysterio to officially pass the torch to Andrade.
Indeed, Andrade has been performing at an astronomical level, but has had nothing to show for it.
This view may be a tad rabid, but WWE needs to push Andrade. The language barrier is a silly excuse to hinder his push. Shinsuke Nakamura is the Intercontinental Champion with Sami Zayn as his mouthpiece, Kabuki Warriors are the Women’s Tag Team Champions with no one as their mouthpiece, and Brock Lesnar is the WWE Champion with Paul Heyman as his mouthpiece.
Andrade can be United States Champion with Zelina Vega as his mouthpiece and further show why he is the future of the WWE.
