After an extensive hiatus from WWE television, The Usos returned to SmackDown.
This is an era where tag team wrestling is a polarizing topic; some think that WWE has great tag teams and others think that WWE doesn’t highlight the division enough.
Wherever you fall on that thought process, it is hard to deny the impact that The Usos have had on the tag team division in the last decade. They have provided fans with great matches against The New Day, The Bar, and more. The excitement of them returning is amplified because fans will wonder who they will be facing on SmackDown.
Here are four tag teams for The Usos to face in their return to SmackDown.
Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, and Bobby Roode
A lot of fans have a dislike for Baron Corbin, but that means that he is doing his job well. Corbin has been great in the role of a disliked character. Ziggler and Roode have been successful in drafting off of the success of Corbin. In most spots, all three wrestlers have done a great job feuding with Roman Reigns.
They have gotten the most that they can out of their current feud. The addition of The Usos to this feud would be an excellent way to breathe new life into the rivalry. The Usos teaming up with Roman Reigns could produce some great six man tag team matches on SmackDown on FOX.
The Usos have shown for years they are one of the strongest tag teams in WWE. A partnership with Reigns is believable due to their close knit family ties. In the past, Ziggler and Roode both have excelled in different tag team roles and Corbin has shown an ability to flourish in almost any role that he is in.
WWE can give these six wrestlers a blank canvas on SmackDown or PPVs to allow them to show fans what great six man tag team wrestling can be. The Usos are the right team to add a new layer to a story that has been beneficial for every wrestler involved.
The Revival
Most times in professional wrestling, a storyline can make a feud go from good to great. A rivalry with The Usos and The Revival is the rare combination of wrestlers that won’t need a compelling storyline filled with drama. These four men can steal the show on whatever platform they are on.
Both teams have the ability to put on the style of tag team wrestling that fans fell in love with decades ago. The door is open for them to showcase their talents, and elevate The Revival to a main event spot on SmackDown.
The Usos are the traditional tag team that fans don’t want to see feud with one another. Fans don’t want to see Jimmy Uso wrestle without Jey Uso. That is what makes their tag team special. This is also a quality that The Revival has shown over the years.
They can add more stock to the SmackDown Tag Team Championship’s by feuding for those belts, or feuding for the right to face The New Day (or whoever the tag team champions are at the time). Fans have such an emotional connection with The Usos that a feud with The Revival can help to elevate The Revival.
For all the knocks that WWE tag team wrestling takes, these four men are what great tag team wrestling is all about. They can make SmackDown on FOX must see television with a series of matches that will bring back the casual fan.
The Undisputed Era
There was once a time where fans knew that every wrestler would eventually be called up from NXT to SmackDown or RAW. However, this is no longer the case with NXT. A group like The Undisputed Era could stay in NXT for the entirety of 2020 and fans won’t grow antsy waiting for them to appear on RAW or SmackDown.
With the success of Survivor Series as a PPV where all brands come together and put on a great show, this would be a perfect spot for The Undisputed Era to face off against The Usos. Two of the best tag teams in WWE facing off against each other would make for an excellent match.
Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly have put on great matches during their time in NXT. The opportunity for them to face the best tag team in the last decade in WWE would a great way to showcase both SmackDown and NXT. These four talented wrestlers could put on the most exciting tag team match of the year.
Unless The Undisputed Era does end up on RAW or SmackDown, the likelihood of this being a long term feud is small. It doesn’t need to be a long storyline. It can help add equity for Fish and O Reilly to be in the ring with one of the best tag teams in WWE history. Survivor Series 2020 would be a great platform for this match as a one night only affair.
The New Day
In the last 20 years, it can be argued that there might have been better tag teams in WWE, but it will be hard to find two tag teams that had a better set of matches than The New Day and The Usos. Their Hell in a Cell contest alone was one of the best matches of the 2017.
For as many matches that they have had, there is still so much more that these two tag teams can provide to fans. It is a testament to their talent that they had such a long feud and fans would still clamor to see them wrestle each other at any point.
With Xavier Woods on the shelf with an Achilles injury, the feud would consist of Kofi Kingston and Big E as members of The New Day. It is hard to say that one combination of the New Day is better than the other. Whichever version of the New Day faces The Usos will produce an exciting tag team match for fans.
The beautiful part of this rivalry is that it can have zero stakes attached to it, and be a segment on SmackDown, or it could also turn into the main event of the year for of any WWE Pay-Per-View in 2020. That is the level of credibility these two tag teams have with the fans. Adding more matches to this long standing feud would be a welcome addition to SmackDown
