Boom: women’s matches have been great the last few weeks

While the last two weeks have only had one women’s match, those matches have been great. I discussed Riho-Nyla Rose last week, and the four-way with Shanna, Swole, Sakazaki, and Shida continued to show the talent of the women in AEW. Then again, with these four, it would be surprising if their match was bad.

Shida is a personal favorite, so of course I’m glad she won. However, what was more intriguing are the wrinkles she added to her game. There were two maneuvers she pulled off using the body of one opponent to injure the other: the snap suplex above, and a Falcon Arrow of Sakazaki onto Swole.

Speaking of Sakazaki, this is another Riho in the making in the sense of people getting behind an underdog babyface. People love her, and her personality is just so effusive it’s hard to dislike her (unless you hate bubbly people).

Swole and Shanna are in that tier just below the top acts, though they should be wrestling for the Women’s Championship in 2020. Swole has a very unique charisma and appeal to her partly due to her power wrestling as a smaller competitor. Shanna is polished, and while I love her Goku gear, she needs a little more in the personality department, but that will come.

Shida is clearly set for a post-Revolution title shot against the winner of champ Nyla Rose and challenger Kris Statlander. Whether she faces Rose or has a rematch with Statlander, the match should be great.
