AEW and NXT Wednesday Night War: 3 winners of night #19
Kenny Omega, “Hangman” Adam Page, and The Young Bucks
What makes this Kenny Omega/”Hangman” Adam Page/Young Bucks story — and the title match that will serve as the climax to this chapter — so fascinating are the distinct and understandable motivations each entity has.
On one end, you have The Young Bucks, a duo many consider to be the best tag team in the world but haven’t lived up to that lofty reputation since AEW launched. Diametrically opposed to them are their friends and stablemates that won the AEW World Tag Team Championships before they did — beating the team the Bucks lost to, SoCal Uncensored, to earn them — but are dealing with their own baggage as a tandem and as individuals.
For his part, Omega has seemed grateful and happy to have found some success in the nascent promotion, which helps numb the sting of disappointment that has defined his early AEW run. Page is dealing with the same burdens, but he has responded to his early setbacks with disillusionment in terms of his place in The Elite.
All of that created a witch’s brew of contention that overflowed a bit in a sit-down interview with Jim Ross. Everything in this segment — particularly the Bucks noting that they pulled Page out of obscurity in Ring of Honor and into stardom — was put together with one goal in mind: get one step closer to the Page heel turn. It may not happen at Revolution, but it’s coming real soon.
