R-Truth vs. Bobby Lashley [Grudge Match]
Result: Bobby Lashley
Rating: 2.5/5.0 Stars
Grade: C-
R-Truth and MVP were originally scheduled for this match, but Bobby Lashley came outta nowhere to announce that he replaced MVP. R-Truth slapped Lashley in the face, which got Lashley angry enough to deliver a Spinebuster and Spear for the pinfall and the victory.
Analysis: Bobby Lashley and MVP were a tandem in TNA, so this replacement was convenient. Mere domination by Lashley here. Nothing special. Just the inevitable. It is nice to see Lashley win matches in a dominant fashion, as he should. However, it’s long overdue for Lashley to get involved in a meaningful championship rivalry. Hopefully, that is in his future sooner rather than later. Maybe MVP can be his manager again for a solid reboot?
Bayley (c) (w/Sasha Banks) vs. Tamina [SmackDown Women’s Championship]
Result: Bayley
Rating: 3.5/5.0 Stars
Grade: B-
Bayley teased Tamina at the start of the match with some trash talking and slaps in the face. Tamina rallied back with some babyface momentum. As soon as she attempted to finish Bayley with the Super Kick, Bayley made a beautiful counter by catching Tamina’s leg and delivering a Knee Bar Submission Hold.
Bayley tossed water in Tamina’s face. Tamina got mad and retaliated with a Superkick and Samoan Drop. As soon as she was about to defeat Bayley for the three-count, Sasha Banks ran into the ring to distract Tamina. Tamina ran after Banks outside the ring, allowing Bayley ample time to roll Tamina up with a Crucifix Pinfall for the victory and retention.
Analysis: The greatest SmackDown Women’s Champion in WWE history retained the championship again. Good booking and in-ring psychology throughout this whole match. Bayley was being a malignant heel by mocking Tamina and tossing water in her face, which are actions heels should always take to put the babyface over. Tamina looked very strong in defeat, especially since the victory was rightfully nefarious, thanks to Banks’ distraction at ringside.
