WWE Raw Takeaways: This may be Asuka’s Backlash opponent

Shayna vs. Asuka looks likely

In the main event of WWE Raw, Randy Orton challenged Edge to a straight-up wrestling match at Backlash, which could be excellent. But an even better Backlash match would be a Raw Women’s Title bout between Shayna Baszler and Asuka, with the Queen of Spades looking like a logical opponent for Asuka next.

WWE could wait and give The Empress an easier opponent first, but based on Drew McIntyre’s first opponent, it’s far more preferable for a dominant champion to start with a great challenger. Shayna can be that challenger.

Since Baszler was recently called up to the main roster and her dominant booking in NXT ended up hurting her perception among fans more than it helped, another big loss would be more of a reset.

Furthermore, with the way Baszler destroyed Natalya, there shouldn’t be any credibility issues, especially keeping in mind her resume in NXT. Baszler’s cruel words and actions are being used to build her up as Asuka’s first title feud, and this could be an exciting, show-stopping match at Backlash on June 14.

There’s no guarantee this will be the match at Backlash, but based on what we saw on Monday night, it looks like the most probable option.
