One journey ends on a high note, while a new and exciting one awaits Becky Lynch right now.
Needless to say, her announcement during the May 11 edition of Monday Night Raw has sent shock waves all across the sports entertainment industry, as fans, colleagues, and media alike celebrate The Man become The Mom.
While the WWE Universe will miss her, Becky Lynch has undeniably become one of the greatest female superstars of all time, and has done some amazing things these past few years. Today, I take a closer look at five of the best moments during her historic Raw Women’s Championship reign.
The Night After …
One cannot discount that thanks to Becky Lynch’s passion for this business, she brought the women’s division to new heights when she, along with Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair, became the first three women to ever main event a WrestleMania; something many thought would never happen.
Walking into that Monday Night Raw after ‘Mania, and cutting a stellar promo as the champ champ – another first for The Man accomplished within the WWE women’s division – she took the very first step that night towards breaking down barriers, hitting milestones, and making history with that Raw Women’s title.
2K20 Cover
Fast forward some spring and summer months, the WWE Universe was blown away when it was announced that the WWE 2K20 would have two cover superstars, unveiling Roman Reigns and Becky Lynch as the talents chosen with this prestigious honor.
Lynch would become the very first female wrestler selected for this, further carving out her legacy within the WWE and sports entertainment as a whole. Needless to say, while this moment didn’t happen in the ring, it signifies something so much bigger when it comes to Lynch’s career in this industry, and what may lay ahead.
The Man and The Rock
After months and months of massive promotion, the debut of SmackDown LIVE on Fox had (finally) arrived on Friday, Oct. 4 of 2019, and who else was chosen to open up such an epic night? Well, Becky Lynch, Raw Women’s Champion, The Man, the top star of the WWE, and the “face that ran the place”, at that moment in time.
While King Corbin interrupted her, The Rock would quickly come to join her in that squared circle, adding an assist, of sorts. A cool moment for the WWE Universe to witness, and a true indication that Lynch was more than capable of hanging with the big boys, and could hold her ground with the People’s Champion.
Battling Banks At Hell In A Cell
Mere days later, Becky Lynch would battle Sasha Banks at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on Oct. 6 2019. After a fierce match within the HIAC structure, The Man would retain her Raw Women’s title after Bank’s tapped out to the Dis-Arm-Her.
Many within the WWE Universe saw this match as going either way, after all, Banks had just returned to the company after a long hiatus. Becky once again proved that she was well on her way to not only retaining her championship, but on a road to shattering records and reigns.
Beating The Unbeatable
Becky busted through the entire roaster her first year as Raw Champion. From Charlotte Flair, to newbie Lacey Evans, Sasha Banks, and veteran Natalya, Lynch proved why she was the best-of-the-best and at the top of the women’s division. With that said, there was one person she had yet to beat, someone who she had tapped out in 2019; prior to her Raw Women’s title reign.
The 2020 Royal Rumble match that pitted The Man versus Asuka was one for the books, and while a win for Asuka meant becoming the new Raw women’s champion, a win for Becky meant truly being known as the greatest of all time. And she proved that she was #GOAT
