Who could Brock Lesnar face at WWE SummerSlam 2020?

Since 2002, the WWE Universe has witnessed Brock Lesnar carve a path of destruction right to the pinnacle of professional wrestling. Sporting an impressive collection of titles and accolades both within and outside the squared circle, Lesnar is one of the most established superstars in the current generation. He’s participated in a number of historic events, but the greatest legacy he’s maintained revolves around SummerSlam.

Out of the 10 SummerSlam events that Lesnar has been involved in, the Beast has emerged victorious in six of his matches. All but two of those victories were world title matches, making the performances Lesnar had at SummerSlam all the more memorable.

Now, he prepares to enter another SummerSlam pay-per-view, yet an opponent has not been named. This has caused speculation amongst fans as to who will end up fighting Lesnar at the event. Will he cash-in his rematch clause against WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, or does the Beast have his eyes set on a different prize?

Without further ado, let’s go ahead and examine the three best opponents for Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam 2020.

Bobby Lashley

Currently in the middle of a strong push on Monday Night RAW, Bobby Lashley would serve as the ultimate opponent for Brock Lesnar. A dream match between these two superstars has been a fantasy for wrestling fans, but WWE has yet to ignite a feud between them.

Both of these men are insanely powerful, and this power is combined with a speed that normally isn’t possible for men of that size. Combined with their amateur wrestling backgrounds, this is a blockbuster WWE SummerSlam 2020 match that has intensity written all over it.

Like his matches with Bill Goldberg in 2016 and 2017, the best way for Brock Lesnar to shine in a potential match with Bobby Lashley is through the less is more principle. A contest between these two doesn’t need to be a 30-minute slugfest, but rather a quick and chaotic fight.

Expect a trip to Suplex City for Bobby Lashley, and in return, Brock Lesnar will take his fair share of spears and power slams from The Dominator. The end result could go either way, yet if WWE was smart, they would invest in Bobby Lashley and let him score the decisive victory over The Beast Incarnate.

Drew McIntyre

In a rather surprising twist, Brock Lesnar and Drew McIntyre haven’t had a single interaction since their WWE Championship match at WrestleMania. If WWE chooses to continue the rivalry, the perfect time for them to have their rematch would be at WWE SummerSlam 2020.

A simple way to establish a second match between these two superstars is for Paul Heyman to remind fans that Lesnar has a rematch clause in his contract. Eager to write the wrong that occurred at WrestleMania, the Beast would begin his quest for revenge by winning back the WWE Championship.

As the most logical option on this list, don’t be surprised if WWE ends up going down this path. There is certainly unfinished business between Lesnar and McIntyre, and there are very few superstars that can have an intense contest like these two.

The only concern in terms of McIntyre potentially retaining the gold is who would he face after SummerSlam? There aren’t that many heels readily available for a world title feud on RAW, with the only exception being Andrade. Unless WWE has more challengers in mind for McIntyre, Lesnar could end up winning the strap to set up matches with Bobby Lashley, Kevin Owens, or even Aleister Black.

Jeff Hardy

Although Brock Lesnar is part of the RAW roster, a potential match with Jeff Hardy is one that seems incredibly enticing on paper. Over the past few months, Jeff Hardy has been presented to fans as someone who has overcome a lot of obstacles in his life. Whether it be drugs, alcohol, or personal trials, Hardy has defeated several demons during his time in wrestling.

Jeff’s current feud with Sheamus illustrates that point, and when it’s all said and done Jeff will likely continue his upward trend. Within WWE, what bigger obstacle is there than the Beast Incarnate; Brock Lesnar? It would be an automatic uphill battle for Jeff, much like it’s been for any superstar who stood toe to toe with Lesnar.

Should this match occur at WWE SummerSlam 2020, it doesn’t have to be a situation where Jeff comes out victorious. In fact, he could lose a match against Brock Lesnar and come out stronger for it.

All WWE would have to do is present the Charismatic Enigma as a fighter, as someone who will put his body on the line to score the victory. It’s the ultimate contrast of styles, with the sheer power of Lesnar going up against the quickness and agility of Hardy. Even at this stage of their respective careers, this is a match that can deliver in a big way.
