Roman Reigns promised to raise the stakes for Jey Uso after giving him a second chance at the Universal Title at WWE Hell in a Cell 2020.
Clash of Champions was an excellent Pay Per View, highlighted by an absolutely incredible match between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso in the show’s main event. WWE Hell in a Cell 2020 is shaping up to be just as exciting, and a second match between Reigns and Uso is already being set up.
On this week’s episode of SmackDown, Jey called out his cousin after his heinous actions in their main event match. Roman noticed Jey still eyeing the title, and after doing his best to manipulate Jey, he gave his cousin one more chance at the Universal Title on Oct. 25.
But he promised “real consequences” and stakes that we’ve never seen in WWE before. Reigns has delivered on everything he’s said in WWE, and we have every reason to believe that he is coming up with something truly make-or-break for his own blood.
So what could that all mean for Jey? Here’s a look at three possible ways Roman Reigns can raise the stakes for Jey Uso at Hell in a Cell later this month.

If Roman Reigns wins at WWE Hell in a Cell 2020, Jey Uso can never wrestle for a world title
I think this is the softest idea I can come up with, because it’s not necessarily the scariest consequence Jey Uso could face for stepping up to the Big Dog and losing for a second straight Pay Per View match.
But still, it’s a pretty big deal if a competitor can no longer compete for a world title, especially since Jey showed that he belongs in the main event scene over the past month. Roman Reigns’ star power has counted for a lot in the success of this feud, but it takes two to make a great rivalry. And Jey has been a phenomenal babyface, putting together the performance of his life at Clash of Champions.
So it would be quite something for Roman to give Jey a taste of the main event, world title spotlight on Friday Night SmackDown, then brutally take it away from him in what will likely be a Hell in a Cell match.
I’d also like to add that Jey showed his main event quality against a second former multi-time world champion in AJ Styles. Jey pinned him clean on this week’s episode of SmackDown, showing his talent in singles competition against an entirely different opponent.
But what prevents this from having truly high enough stakes befitting of Roman’s chilling words is the simple fact that we have no expectations of Jey Uso ever winning a world title.

Roman Reigns kicks Jey Uso out of the family if he loses at WWE Hell in a Cell 2020
Now we’re talking about stakes! I’m not sure how much I’m comfortable with speculating about this one, but I’ve seen fans wonder if Roman Reigns could give Jey Uso the ultimate dismissal if he doesn’t fall in line, loses badly, and refuses to acknowledge Reigns as the “Tribal Chief”.
The defiant Jey is not going to relent ever. He’s never going to give in to the self-aggrandizing, manipulative Reigns by calling him the “Tribal Chief”, so there’s only one outcome possible at Hell in a Cell.
Jey is going to face the consequences for what Reigns believes is the ultimate act of insubordination. Reigns will eventually pay for his deeds – via the Rock, most likely – but not before he drives a wedge in his own family. With Reigns, it is all about control. He is the mob boss, the leader of the family. And if someone in the family doesn’t want to respect his standing, he has no choice but to act.
Again, if Reigns wants to up the ante and make this one of the most memorable rivalries in WWE history with stakes that truly do beat out any other match we’ve seen in the company, then this is a way to do it. I’d still have to do some thinking on how this would work, but it feels like anything – no matter how dramatic – could happen in this excellent storyline.

Roman Reigns forces Jey Uso to go back to NXT if he can’t win at WWE Hell in a Cell 2020
The NXT Tag Team Division needs some help. There’s definitely talent in the division, and Breezango have added some veteran presence with main roster experience when they moved back to the Black and Gold brand. But NXT’s tag division needs actual star power.
So maybe we move in that direction post-draft with Jey Uso having to move to NXT, being banished from Raw and SmackDown if Roman Reigns vanquishes him at Hell in a Cell. And since Roman’s victory seems to be an inevitability, the Usos would have to make their way to the Black and Gold brand to face an entirely new crop of talent.
An argument against the Usos moving to NXT is that there is already a dearth of tag teams on Raw and SmackDown. Firstly, the Usos haven’t been competing in tag matches due to Jimmy’s injury, and SmackDown’s tag division still has better storylines than NXT’s. Secondly, if the tag titles are unified by the Usos in NXT, then all of a sudden tag team wrestling becomes a hub for NXT on Wednesday nights, too.
Fans were wondering if Naomi, who has expressed interest in joining NXT in the past, and the Usos could go to NXT in the Fall/winter of 2019. Maybe it could happen in the Fall/winter of 2020.
