WWE stated that this week’s SmackDown is a throwback episode, but let’s be clear here, there was nothing that resonated with the word. Roman Reigns opened the show with his usual colleagues, Paul Heyman and Jey Uso. After berating his former opponent in Daniel Bryan, he brought out his “replacement” who was none other than Jimmy Uso, finally back in action.
Jimmy Uso has been out of action for more than a year, with his last match occurring back in March of 2020. Now that he’s back, his addition to the Roman Reigns angle makes him an interesting new wrinkle that may not play out exactly how everyone expects. Still, his return creates multiple opportunities of impact within the SmackDown brand, and here are some of those that stand out.
Roman Reigns versus The Usos Family Feud edition
Jey has been a henchman for The Tribal chief for a long time now, but we know that The Usos like to fly and dream big. Jimmy, Jey, and Roman Reigns are part of one family, and this difference of opinion between family members opens avenues of a fight between cousins. Think back to when Roman used an injured Jimmy to force Jey to submit. Those memories can lead to the twins turning on the “Head of the Table.”
A feud with Jey turning on his cousin will add more value to his character. Jey instantly became a fan favorite as this storyline saw a new wrinkle to his character that many didn’t know he possessed. Since then, it seems as if his character is slowly becoming stale as a second to Reigns. It can change if Jey decides to step out of the shadow of his cousin with assistance from his twin brother.
The Usos immediately elevate the tag team division
The Usos are one of the best tag teams we have in the WWE. Along with the New Day, they’ve created some of the best moments in recent memory. Jimmy went out of action after the accident at WrestleMania 36, and the state of the tag team division went with him. The WWE hasn’t seemed interested in booking the tag team division too much success and looking at the entirety of the SmackDown tag teams shows that.
The Usos know how to burn the house down with their high-flying action and the ability to lift other teams when they work between the ropes. The Usos Penitentiary is looking for some new victims, but we would have to see who decides to step up to them when they reconcile as a tag team. Dolph and Roode seem to be the right opponents for them as they are heels, while The Usos will be great as babyfaces. Ziggler and Roode have not got the opportunity to showcase their skills, but Jimmy and Jey may bring the best out of them, thus creating new stars in the process that never got their due.

Jimmy Uso denies Roman Reigns’ authority and gets taken out
Jimmy Uso is not accepting this idea of Roman Reigns being The Tribal Chief. He looked perplexed upon return, and it was the same situation before The Swiss Cyborg decided to take out all members of the Anoa’i family. Jimmy is a star that needs the right amount of push, and The Big Dog may be the person to help him elevate him just as he did his brother.
It would be nice to see Jimmy deny Roman’s run and standing directly opposed to Reigns and his twin brother. There’s an interesting story that could be told between a heel Jey and a babyface Jimmy. A beating that takes out Jimmy for a couple of weeks will put him in contention for revenge, and you know it’s best served when one least expects it.

Jimmy Uso falls in line and follows Roman’s orders
The flip side to the point above is that Jimmy could fall in line and accept the authority of his cousin. It would ensure that the two work under the guidance of their Tribal Chief and his special counsel. It would elevate the character of The Usos and make their turn all the more special. Jimmy and Jey know all the tricks in Roman’s arsenal, and it would take a second to turn things around for the champion.
There is nothing more appealing than to see two talented stars work on someone else’s orders. We have seen this with Drew McIntyre and Elias, who worked as Shane McMahon’s henchman in the past. Elias hasn’t had his share of luck with his character, but Drew has turned from playing second fiddle to being the main event superstar. It means we may see The Usos meteoric rise soon, but how soon will it be is something to be seen.

The Usos and Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins and his friends
We saw how Seth Rollins went over to the champion to complain about the actions of The Usos, but if they join the clan, then it would be blood vs their nemesis. Seth Rollins is currently a heel, but if Reigns decides to stand by his blood, then The Messiah will have no choice but to change places. It would mean that he would join forces with his current foe, Cesaro.
The Messiah character is getting repetitive and doesn’t hold any ground with the fans at this moment. It would be better if Seth drops this character and accepts Cesaro and another superstar of his choice to go against the champion and his family. It would be reminiscent of the Attitude Era, where two groups would go loggerheads to prove their mettle. It will utilize various superstars and give them a moment to shine and the fans something worthwhile to watch every Friday Night.
