7. AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon Will Flop
When WWE paired AJ Styles and Shane McMahon together for WrestleMania 33, it drew plenty of complaints; most of them were aimed at WWE “not giving Styles someone better.” It’s an argument that will rage on until WrestleMania, but the idea of it being a bad match?
Styles is, in fact, “Phenomenal.” He’s lived up to the nickname since the early 2000’s, going through ROH, TNA, NJPW, and ROH again. This translated greatly to WWE, where he’s shown off what’s made him possibly the best wrestler in the world. So shouldn’t that leave fans with the expectation that he’ll deliver a quality match with McMahon, no matter how limited the SmackDown Commissioner is in the ring?
That’s the thing — what’s holding everyone back in Shane’s wrestling ability. It never was elite and isn’t going to be that at WrestleMania. However, that doesn’t mean he can’t hold up his end of the bargain, even at 47-years-old.
Sure, McMahon’s punches aren’t pretty. He’s not going to perform springboard 450 splashes either. What he can do is sell like hell, make Styles look like a million bucks and do wild things that even his opponent wouldn’t do.
This match will exceed expectations and be one everyone looks back on after WrestleMania 33. Will it steal the show, though?
