Friday Night Smackdown – 2/12/10
This week, Smackdown got right into the action, and so will I. Here’s what went down last night:
CM Punk with Luke Gallows & Serena vs. Rey Mysterio
WINNER: Mysterio via roll up pin fall countering the GTS
- After the match, the Straightedge Society attacked Mysterio.
Drew McIntyre comes to the ring and takes the microphone, “I don’t care who my opponent is because I’m the Intercontinental Champion, I’m undefeated, and I’m unstoppable!”
Drew McIntyre vs. Kane
WINNER: Double Count Out
- After match, the battle continued. McIntyre tried to hit Kane with the IC Title, but Kane countered with a choke slam.
Backstage: Mickie James is at the catering table when she’s approached by Michelle McCool & Layla. They continue to tease her about being overweight, and Mickie shows them the Women’s Title with her name on it. They try to offer her some cottage cheese and Mickie knocks it out of McCool’s hands right onto Vickie Guerrero. Mickie leaves as McCool & Layla try to console a fuming mad Vickie.
Non-Title Match
Mickie James vs. Layla with Michelle McCool
- Match interrupted by Vickie Guerrero still pissed, makes it a handicap match.
- WINNER(S): Layla & McCool via pin fall after Michelle hits the Faith Breaker on Mickie.
Video Package: What has gone on over the past few weeks with Batista both over on RAW and on Smackdown.
Josh Matthews introduces Batista to the crowd and asks him in the middle of the ring to explain his actions.
- Batista takes the mic, and Josh leaves the ring intimidated. Batista hems and haws, wanders around the outside of the ring for about 2-3 minutes. Then gets back in the ring and drops the microphone and starts walking to the back. He stops about half way up to the crowd chanting “CENA, CENA!” He heads back to the ring, grabs the mic and drops it again. Heads to the locker room for good.
Teddy Long comes to the ramp to announce to the crowd, “Last week, Batista refused to compete. Tonight, he refused to explain himself. Maybe he’ll be in the mood to compete against the Royal Rumble winner Edge?” Crowd cheers.
Matt Hardy & The Great Khali with Ranjin Singh vs. The Hart Dynasty (DH Smith, Tyson Kidd with Natalya)
WINNERS: Hardy & Khali via roll up pin fall
- Before the match, Matt Hardy wished everyone a happy early Valentine’s Day, and introduced his Valentine this year, Maria who came down to the ring, and during the match got into a cat fight with Natalya.
R-Truth vs. John Morrison
WINNER: R-Truth via referee stoppage; About a minute into the match, Morrison suffered a fluke injury to his ankle and couldn’t stand up.
Edge comes to the ring, “The winner of the Rumble does not have to compete in the Chamber… I will face the one who survives either champion… I could face 12 possible people at WrestleMania. There is only one guy is undefeated at WrestleMania, and that’s The Undertaker.” Then goes on a rant about his match next week against Batista…
- Interrupted by Chris Jericho, “You didn’t mention me by name as a possible opponent fr you… I was there when you tore your Achilles… I don’t get injured. I win championships… Save yourself some grief and choose the winner of the RAW Chamber… stay away from me or bad things will happen to you.
- Takers music hits, and Edge moves to commentary.
No DQ Match
Chris Jericho vs. The Undertaker
WINNER: Chris Jericho via pin fall after hitting the Code Breaker
- Mid match, Taker threw Jericho at Edge while he was over at the announce table. When Edge wasn’t paying attention, Taker put a boot in his face.
- Later in match, Taker hit the Last Ride on Jericho, but turned right into a retaliation Spear from Edge allowing Jericho time to recover.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
The Batista segment was the largest waste of time ever! I know WWE is trying to create an atmosphere of not knowing what is going on in The Animal’s head, but that was ridiculous. Five minutes of dead air and him wandering around the ring area! We all know he’s got menacing thoughts and is calculating what he’s going to do next, but really what does this segment really give him. He’s already got heat with the fans because he attacked John Cena, but this I think took away from it just a tad. I know for sure that it took away some time from other matches.
The John Morrison injury was a total fluke. R-Truth ducked down, and Morrison did a flip over him and just landed wrong. From what I’ve heard online, it may be broken. Well, there goes being in the Chamber… does that mean Shawn Michaels will get his chance in the Smackdown Elimination Chamber after all??? Best of luck to Morrison for a speedy recovery!
