Monday Night RAW – 2/22/10

After declaring two new champions at the Elimination Chamber on Sunday, what would the backlash be on RAW?  Here’s what went happened last night:

Video Package: A quick look at the results of the Elimination Chamber PPV.

The NEW World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Jericho, comes to the ring.  “I’m going to WrestleMania!  Last night at the Elimination Chamber I beat five of WWE’s best… I beat The Undertaker for the second time in a row and as a result, I am the World Heavyweight Champion!”

• Edge‘s music hits, but he doesn’t come down the ramp.  He jumped into the ring from the crowd and Spears Jericho.  Edge takes the mic, “You’re going to WrestleMania against me!”

John Cena comes out to the ring with purpose.  “Add me to the list with Bret Hart of people Vince McMahon has screwed… Right when I won the WWE Title, I find out I have another match against Batista.  That’s how Vince McMahon wants to do business, fine!  I was champion last night, which means I get a rematch, and I’d like it right NOW!”

• McMahon comes to the ramp, “Key word was business.  What was my business decision with Batista, you help me and I help you.  You have a WWE Title match anytime you want… Batista, as you say, got some and became WWE Champion!”
• Cena replies, “You hired a mercenary and paid him off by giving him the WWE Title.  Tonight, I’m taking the damn thing back!
• Vince informs him that Batista will not defend the title till WrestleMania and that Sheamus also is entitled to a rematch.  So he decides to put Cena in a match where he can earn the rematch at WrestleMania.  McMahon tells him he must beat Batista tonight!

Diva’s Title Tournament Final
Maryse vs. Gail Kim
WINNER: Maryse via pin fall after hitting the French Kiss DDT

Backstage: Guest hosts Ty Murray & Jewel are talking to the divas backstage about a Diva Bull Riding Contest tonight when they’re bothered by Jillian Hall & Alicia Fox.  Of course, Jillian starts to sing and Jewel shows her how it’s done.

• Jillian takes exception and demands respect from Jewel, and subsequently gets the taste slapped out of her mouth by the pop singer.  Jillian walks away wondering why everyone always slaps her.

Backstage: Randy Orton is in the locker room pondering. Cody Rhodes approaches, “I knew Ted (DiBiase) would betray you last night.  When I through the pipe in there, I had every intention of you using it.  All weekend Ted talked about beating you…”

• Randy replies, “I know what you’re trying to do…  If it’s anyone’s fault for what happened last night, it’s me.  I’ve taught you too well… I asked for the six man tonight.  We’ve come way too far to fall apart now!  Tell Ted… that I’m sorry…”  Randy walks away.
• Ted DiBiase enters the room and asks, “How did that go?”  Rhodes replies, “Almost too well?”  DiBiase shoots back, “we sticking to the plan?”  Rhodes replies again, “absolutely!”

6-man Tag Team Match
Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne & Yoshi Tatsu vs. Legacy
WINNERS: Kingston, Bourne & Tatsu via pin fall after Bourne hit Air Bourne on Rhodes

• Mid way through match, Rhodes tagged himself in and Orton hit the middle rope DDT on him.  He goes to leave and DiBiase says to him, “what the hell is wrong with you?!?”  He gets an RKO for his trouble and Orton leaves.

Video Package: History of Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker since WrestleMania 25 leading up all the way till the Elimination Chamber.

Shawn Michaels comes to the ring, “I did what I had/needed to do… I understand for every action there is a reaction, and when it comes to The Undertaker, I’m counting on it!”

• Taker’s music hits and he walks to the ring. “You wanted my attention.  Now you have it!”
• Shawn says, “Last year people said we had the greatest match in WrestleMania history, maybe ever.  You have to understand, I wrestled a nearly perfect match.  I made one mistake!  It cost me everything… That’s something I cannot live with… I begged for a rematch, and you ignored me.  That’s why I cost you the World Heavyweight Title.  I know you’re angry… you want your revenge!  Face me at WrestleMania and get your revenge!
• Taker replies, “You’re on.  I accept… On one condition… this year you have to put up something as well… your soul… If you defeat me you end the streak.  If I beat you, your career is over.  That’s it Shawn, streak vs. your career!”
• Shawn looks at him sternly, “You don’t get it, if I don’t beat you at WrestleMania, I have no career.  You’re on!”

Money in the Bank Qualifier
Christian vs. Carlito
WINNER: Christian via pin fall after hitting the Kill Switch

• Before the match, we heard promos from both Christian and Carlito’s NXT rookies.

Jewel and Ty Murray come out to the ramp to host the Diva’s Bull Riding Competition.  Participants included Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly and The Bella Twins.

• Interrupted by The Miz & Big Show.  Miz says, “Really?!?  A Diva’s PBR?  What’s next Jewel, a yodeling contest?”  Show chimes in, “anyone can do that!”
• Ty challenges him to give it a shot and Show falls off in about two seconds.
• Miz protests saying the mechanical bull went faster than the Divas.  Big Show gets pissed and KO Punches the stuffed head on the mechanical bull.
• Jewel & Ty put them in a match for the Tag Team Titles.

Unified Tag Team Title Match
Show Miz (Champions) vs. MVP & Mark Henry
WINNERS: Show Miz via pin fall after Show hit Mark Henry with the KO Punch

• Before the match, we see Miz’s NXT rookie Daniel Bryan watching the match on the monitor.

ANNOUNCEMENT:  The 3rd inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, Wendi Richter.

Jerry Lawler & Michael Cole update us on Bret Hart’s injury status.

• Video Package is shown of the accident.
• Vince McMahon appears on screen saying he had nothing to do with the accident and welcomes Bret back next week to have a proper farewell.

Non-Title Match
John Cena vs. Batista
WINNER: John Cena via DQ after Batista deliberately kicked him in the balls one minute into the match

• After the match, Batista attacked Cena multiple times.  From inside to outside the ring, and with the steel ring post and a chair.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

SHOCKER SHOCKER!!!  I didn’t see Edge vs. Jericho, Taker vs. Michaels, or Cena vs. Batista coming for WrestleMania at all!!!  (SARCASM!)  It was so blatantly obvious!  Even Stevie Wonder could’ve seen that coming!

I’m excited that they’re actually going to keep the Money in the Bank match for WrestleMania even though WWE announced that they would be having a MITB PPV.  I really enjoy that match, and I hope that they continue to have that match on the PPV.  It usually kicks off the show to get the crowd going and ends up outdoing most of the matches on the card.

A bull riding competition…?  WOW!  Another reason why I hate WWE’s version of women’s wrestling.  They don’t actually wrestle!  Even the Diva’s title match sucked because it was like three minutes long.

Good to see some of the NXT kids getting a chance to appear on RAW.  They also said on commentary that the NXT rookies would be competing for a RAW contract, so that throws a new wrinkle into the mix.  It all goes down TONIGHT (Tues.) on SyFy.
