Video Package: Monday night on RAW, the season one NXT rookies destroy John Cena, the RAW ring side area and almost everyone affiliated with WWE that stood in their way.

Matt Striker is in the ring and he talks a little bit about the situation from RAW.  He then welcomes the WWE Pros to the ring:

  • John Morrison introduces his rookie Eli Cottonwood
  • Cody Rhodes introduces his rookie Husky Harris
  • Lay-Cool introduces their rookie Kaval
  • Mark Henry introduces his rookie Lucky Cannon
  • Kofi Kingston introduces his rookie Michael McGillicutty
  • MVP introduces his rookie “Showtime” Percy Watson
  • Zack Ryder introduces his rookie Titus O’Neil

Matt Striker then informs everyone that this season half of the polls will be determined by the WWE Universe in addition to the Pros Poll.  This season will only be twelve weeks, so in three weeks they’re going to have their first elimination.

  • Guys are getting restless and a shoving match breaks out.

Michael Cole & Josh Matthews talk a little about the RAW incident with the season one rookies.  Cole admits to running away.

Eli Cottonwood & John Morrison vs. Zack Ryder & Titus O’Neil
WINNERS: Cottonwood/Morrison via pin fall after Morrison hit Star Ship Pain on O’Neil

  • Post match, Striker asks Morrison for his thoughts on his rookie’s performance.  Morrison says, “Big man held his own tonight…”
  • Striker turns to the pros sitting on the ramp.  The Miz comments, “Do you really think you impressed anyone tonight..?  You failed!”

Video Package: A closer look at Alex Riley who seems like he’s a cocky, arrogant jock.

MVP & Percy Watson vs. Cody Rhodes & Husky Harris
WINNERS: MVP/Watson via pin fall after Watson hit a Float Over DDT on Harris

  • Post match, Striker intervenes in a scuffle, but manages to get comments from Cody Rhodes who says that Harris looks like all of these people here, and says about Watson that MVP can’t do anything with him.
  • MVP comments that he “believes that “Showtime” is ready for prime time!”

Video Package: A closer look at Michael McGillicutty, who is wrestling royalty with his dad, Mr. Perfect and his grandfather Larry “The Axe” Hennig.

Matt Striker has all the pros on one side of the ring and the rookies on the other.  They show almost the entire incident from RAW and get reactions from the rookies on what went down.

  • Kaval – “Simply unbelieveable, but that’s how you make a statement in the WWE.”
  • Lucky Cannon – “What they did was cowardly.”
  • Husky Harris – “I don’t agree, but I don’t care because I’m here to win NXT.”
  • Alex Riley – Sneezes into the microphone and claims he’s allergic to Striker.
  • Percy Watson – He didn’t think it was appropriate.
  • Eli Cottonwood – “I think he deserved every bit of it.”
  • Titus O’Neil – “I think season one should try and do that to us.”  Then threatens Zack Ryder to not poke him in the chest again.
  • Michael McGillicutty – “Season one guys made an impact, that’s what matters.”

Matt Striker then officially welcomes the rookies to NXT.

  • Lay-Cool look to go give Kaval, a hug and both ladies slap him across the face.  That prompts a brawl and the WWE pros stand tall after the initiation.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

First episode has to establish characters and personalities, so I’m not too shocked that they did a lot of question and answer with the rookies.  At first instinct, personality wise I think Percy Watson and Alex Riley have a leg up on everyone, but we’ll see how characters evolve as the weeks go on.  As for in ring ability, we didn’t get to see everyone compete, so I’m going to reserve judgment till I see everyone in the ring.

The one thing I didn’t think about till I was watching the episode was what are they going to do with Kaval when it comes to tag team matches with his pro?  Lay-Cool don’t compete against the men, so where does that leave Kaval?  I wonder if WWE thought of that before the show went live tonight.  They did the pro & rookie tag team matches, but considering the circumstances I’m guessing they’ll never have Kaval in a tag team match unless it’s with a fellow rookie..?

I had a slightly odd flashback when I saw Husky Harris in the ring.  Every time he would get knocked down and get back up, because he’s overweight, my brain thought back to watching video of “Adorable” Adrian Adonis flopping around the ring.  Don’t ask me why, but that’s what came to mind.  I know it’s random.
