Smackdown – 6/25/10
Fatal 4 Way has passed, and how would the WWE Universe react now that there’s a new World Heavyweight Champion over on Smackdown? Find out right here:
Backstage: Teddy Long & Vickie Guerrero are in the office and they acknowledge that Rey Mysterio won the match at Fatal 4 Way becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion. They say that he’ll defend the title at the new PPV concept, Money in the Bank. They’re going to be evaluating talent to see which eight competitors get to participate in a MITB match to earn a title shot.
- Vickie then adds a comment about Vince McMahon‘s status after he was attacked by the NXT 7.
- Interrupted by Drew McIntyre who’s upset still with Teddy. He wants to embarrass him again, but Teddy informs Drew that with Mr. McMahon out of commission, the board of directors have given him full power on Smackdown. With that, he’s reinstated Matt Hardy, and Drew will face him later tonight in a match.
Big Show comes to the ring for his match. His opponent, Jack Swagger, decides to come to the ring with a microphone. Swagger says that he’s filed a protest with the WWE for having to defend his (former) title in a Fatal 4 Way match… He blames Kane for interfering and feels cheated. He informs us that he’ll be getting his automatic rematch against Rey Mysterio at Money in the Bank.
Big Show vs. Jack Swagger
WINNER: Show via DQ as Swagger refused to break an Ankle Lock submission when Show had the rope.
- Post match, Show can’t even walk under his own power.
6-Man Tag Team Match
Vance Archer, Curt Hawkins & Dolph Ziggler vs. Christian, MVP & Kofi Kingston
WINNERS: Christian/MVP/Kingston via pin fall after Christian hit the Kill Switch on Ziggler
Video Package: The NXT 7 attack Vince McMahon this past week on RAW.
Backstage: Kane over casket still pissed and seeking vengeance. He believes that CM Punk is the cause of his brother’s (The Undertaker‘s) vegetative state.
Drew McIntyre vs. Matt Hardy
WINNER: Hardy via pin fall after hitting the Twist of Fate
- Post match, Teddy Long appears on the Tron, and gives McIntyre some bad news… He just got word that his visa had expired and he’s in the U.S. illegally. Security comes down to the ring to escort him out, and he throws a hissy fit.
Cody Rhodes and his NXT Rookie Husky Harris come to the ring. Cody has a new swagger about him because he was voted the WWE’s most handsome superstar by the WWE Divas in a recent online poll. He dogs Husky for being overweight and an average looking guy, and then apologizes for being so good looking. He says it obviously wasn’t genetic, just look at his father and brother (Dusty Rhodes & Goldust). He then dogs some of the people in the audience, and then moves over to Todd Grisham and ring announcer, Tony Chimel. He thanks the divas for having such great taste and announces that he would like to be introduced as “Dashing” Cody Rhodes.
Backstage: Vickie Guerrero grinning at the picture of her and Dolph Ziggler on the wall when Dolph walks in to talk… He’s upset about the photo and all the things he’s done to help her and yet he’s got nothing to show for it. He wants an Intercontinental title shot, and gives her an ultimatum about it.
Rosa Mendes vs. Kelly Kelly with Tiffany (LayCool on commentary with Kaval)
WINNER: Kelly Kelly via pin fall in about 10 seconds after hitting the K2
- Post match, it looked like a brawl was going to break out between LayCool and “Blondetourage” (as Matt Striker calls them), but nothing actually happens.
Video Package: Teaser promo for the newest WWE superstar, Alberto Del Rio.
CM Punk to the ring before his match, he takes the mic, “I just have one thing to say… This is the face of an innocent man!”
No DQ Match
CM Punk vs. Kane
WINNER: No Contest
- The entire Straightedge Society came out to help Punk, but it wasn’t enough to totally stop Kane. Eventually Kane stalked Punk through the crowd and up into the concourse area. They fought up there a bit until Punk had enough and ran outside and across the street.
QUICK THOUGHTS:
I have to start out this section once again by apologizing for my television provider because they’re douches. Again they moved the broadcast from Friday night to Saturday night.
Match of the night has to go to Matt Hardy and Drew McIntyre. The build up leading up to this match was full of anger and emotion, and that’s just what this match was about too. Both guys poured it on and did not disappoint. The only thing that was disappointing was that after this great match, they marred it by having Teddy deport McIntyre… I don’t get why WWE Creative would come up with something like that…
It’s always weird to see someone as large as the Big Show screaming his ass off with an injury. It’s almost unimaginable considering his size. You can’t help but think that Show’s never going to get injured because he’s almost untouchable and that he’d be the one dishing out the pain. We’ll see where this angle goes from here.
If Cody Rhodes didn’t piss you off before, this version of “Dashing” Cody Rhodes is going to push you over the cliff. Part of me is hoping that Husky Harris attacks him next week on NXT.
