WWE Smackdown – 8/6/10
After last week’s edition of WWE Smackdown ended with both Jack Swagger & Rey Mysterio ending up in the Gulf of Mexico, would last night’s episode allow for some semblance of revenge? Here’s the results for Smackdown:
[This time, it wasn’t the TV network that screwed me over, it was my damn DVR this time around. It didn’t record because of a simple naming error in this week’s schedule (All b/c of the silly ! ) I apologize for my somewhat incomplete results compared to normal since I’m basically running from WWE.com clips.]
Rey Mysterio to the ring. He denies that he was the one who attacked The Undertaker.
- Interrupted by Drew McIntyre who challenges Mysterio to a main event match. Accepted.
Matt Hardy vs. Cody Rhodes
WINNER: Rhodes via pin fall after hitting Cross Rhodes
Backstage: Teddy Long is talking to Rosa Mendes when LayCool enter to talk about the Women’s Title. Teddy demands that they give him one of the titles. Michelle McCool reluctantly gives up her title as Layla clenches hers for dear life. Teddy tells them that he doesn’t care who’s the champion, but it’s only going to be one of them.
- They start to argue about it, and McCool grabs the bottom part of the belt, and it comes apart into two pieces like a “best friends” necklace. Teddy is baffled.
Intercontinental Championship Match
Kofi Kingston (Champion) vs. Dolph Ziggler with Vickie Guerrero
WINNER: Ziggler via pin fall after hitting the Zig Zag to become the NEW Intercontinental Champion
- Mid match, Vickie jumped in the ring to distract the referee after Kofi hit Trouble in Paradise, which prevented the ref from making a count and distracted Kofi as well.
- Post match, as Ziggler celebrates his victory, Kofi jumps him from behind and beats the crap out of the new champion!
Straightedge Society to the ring. CM Punk gloats about his squad beating down the Big Show last week, injuring his hand. Pictures/video is shown from last week, and Punk doesn’t believe that he’ll make it to SummerSlam.
- The SES members are excited, but Punk shoots them down saying that their happiness is their weakness and that he will not tolerate them falling off the wagon. If they do, they’ll have to pack their bags.
Straightedge Society vs. MVP, Chris Masters & JTG
WINNERS: SES via pin fall after Luke Gallows takes advantage of MVP getting kicked in the back of the head by CM Punk (who never entered the match)
Video Package: Grooming tips with “Dashing” Cody Rhodes. This week’s topic tweezing your eyebrows.
Drew McIntyre vs. Rey Mysterio
WINNER: Mysterio via pin fall roll up
- Post match, Rey takes the mic to announce something to the WWE Universe when World Heavyweight Champion Kane comes to the ring with a casket. Mysterio is preoccupied with Kane that he gets hit from behind by McIntyre. Rey tries to scurry away from Kane and while escaping the ring almost lands in the casket. He walks up to the ramp and has a microphone. Claims it wasn’t him who took out The Undertaker and then blames Kane saying it was him!
- Kane back in the ring throws a fit like he’s arguing with himself saying “I love my brother!
QUICK THOUGHTS:
The IC Title match wasn’t bad. I don’t like how Vickie Guerrero gets involved in every single one of Ziggler’s matches, but it was about time they gave Ziggler a run with the belt. I don’t know how long of a run it’ll be, but he can at least say that he beat Kofi for the title. I have a feeling that at SummerSlam will be their rematch.
After yesterday’s rant about a certain women’s wrestler, I didn’t think that I’d be ranting again today, but here I go. LayCool (and whoever wrote the storyline) are now disgracing the legacy of the Women’s Title. If co-champions and two belts wasn’t silly enough, now they have one belt that splits into two. I take everything back I ever said bad about the silly spinner title belt. This is by far the worst idea ever!
