WWE Main Event Review: Big Show vs. Jack Swagger
By Mike Smith
WWE.com
Another edition of WWE Main Event live on the WWE Network. The advertised main event is Jack Swagger vs. Big Show, interesting considering both men have a common enemy right now in Cesaro.
Jinder Mahal promo/Los Matadores vs. 3MB
Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre going in this one for 3MB. No Heath Slater, but Mahal and McIntyre are joined by Hornswoggle in 3MB-like clothes to counter El Torito. Mahal refers to the trio as “Two and a Half Man Band.”
The match ends with Hornswoggle and El Torito brawling in the ring, and the referee calling for the bell. Both members of Los Matadores and both members of 3MB take low blows after the bell. Hornswoggle and El Torito are restrained by their respective teams to end the segment. This was very strange. This has to be the first time that a storyline started at a WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony.
Bad News Barrett promo/Bad News Barrett vs. Sin Cara
Barret mocks Sin Cara by saying that even though Scooby Doo isn’t here to help him, it’s okay because Sin Cara is still a joke.
Bad News Barrett picks up the win with the Bad News Bullhammer. Good match. Sin Cara has been really impressive ever since he stopped being played by Sin Cara, and Hunico took over. Barrett has looked very good in the past two weeks.
Battle Royal to determine the #1 Contender for the Divas Championship at Extreme Rules
The participants are: Nikki Bella, Naomi, Cameron, Emma, Tamina Snuka, Alicia Fox, Aksana, Eva Marie, Layla and Natalya. Tamina wins by last eliminating Natalya. The order of elimination is: Eva Marie, Emma, Aksana, Layla, Naomi, Cameron, Nikki, Alicia Fox and Natalya. Good battle royal that sets up Paige’s first Divas Championship defense. I’m certainly interested in hearing what AJ Lee has to say about Tamina getting a shot at the Divas Championship.
Zeb Colter promo/Big Show vs. Jack Swagger
Zeb talks about famous traitors in American history, throwing Cesaro’s name in there. He thanks Cesaro for validating everything he has ever said about “sneaky immigrants.” He then turns his attention to Big Show and calls him the symbol of American laziness. It was a good promo, except for the part where he talked about Paul Heyman and attacked him for being bald, fat and unable to get women. It wasn’t funny and felt like it didn’t belong with the rest of the promo.
Big Show wins with the KO Punch. This was a pretty good match that featured an awesome counter from a Big Show chokeslam to Swagger’s Patriot Lock. Big Show sold the Patriot Lock very well, before powering out and hitting the KO Punch. Swagger has looked really good in recent weeks, both, before and after his breakup with Cesaro. I really want to see Swagger get another chance.
Overall Impression
The opening match was weird and probably turned some people off, but the rest of the show was very good. WWE has really stepped up with their Main Event broadcasts, and it makes the show must-see. The best part is that it’s on the WWE Network and is immediately available in their archives. This might be the best thing that WWE is consistently doing with the Network.
