JBL strips Paige of the NXT Women’s Championship
Paige was walking with the Divas Championship and NXT Women’s Championship belts when JBL informed her that she would be stripped of the NXT Women’s Championship because the Divas Championship is too demanding. This is one of the many reasons why having a double-champion is bad. Paige deserved it as much as anybody, but Big E and Seth Rollins both held the NXT Championship while being a part of the main roster. Rollins lost the title to Big E, and Big E lost it to Bo Dallas. Both of those guys were able to help somebody along, but now nobody gets to say they beat Paige for the NXT Women’s Championship.
Lana promo/Alexander Rusev vs. Travis Tyler
Lana told the crowd to rise for Rusev, who is invading the WWE.
Rusev made Tyler tap out to The Accolade. Lana’s starting to hurt as much as she helps. The better her promos get, the more it seems to contribute to Rusev being cartoonish.
Adam Rose w/ Devin Taylor
Devin asked Rose what he thought of Camacho mocking his partying. Rose called Camacho a “party pooper” and Rose’s party people booed Camacho. Rose told Camacho not to be a lemon, but to be a “Rosebud”. Having all the party people in the background was a very nice touch.
Charlotte and Sasha Banks vs. Emma and Paige
Charlotte got the win over Paige when she hit a move that looks like a reverse DDT, as the announce team noted, it’s only the second time she’s used the move. Being Ric Flair’s daughter has to be good for your career, but if you watch Charlotte, you’ll see that everything she does is calculated. She’s very savvy and and knows what she’s doing.
Tyson Kidd vs. Mason Ryan
Kidd picked up the win with the No Kidding after Ryan dominated most of the match. Kidd has been “back” from injury for a while, but now he appears to be set to go full-time in the ring, and he can really “wow” a crowd when he gets the chance.
Angelo Dawkins vs. Tyler Breeze
Breeze hit the Beauty Shot after dominating most of this match. Breeze seems to be headed up the NXT ranks. I don’t see him being taken seriously on the main roster, but he is very capable in the ring.
Corey Graves and The Ascension vs. Sami Zayn and The Usos
The ending came when Zayn laid Graves out in the ring and tagged in Jey Uso. Zayn and Jimmy Uso then hit stereo dives to the outside on The Ascension, while Jey hit a top rope splash on Graves for the win. This was a really good match. The crowd was hot for the match the whole way, but they were really big into the ending, even after the match when The Usos and Zayn celebrated by dancing in the ring.
Overall Impression
Really good show from NXT. The crowd is always hot for the matches with main roster Superstars, and this main event with The Usos was no exception. The Divas tag team match was also very good, as well as the major development that Paige would be stripped of the NXT Women’s Championship. Things are going to get very interesting as NXT heads toward naming a new NXT Women’s Champion, and as they head towards their next live WWE Network show, NXT Takeover.
