WWE Main Event Review: Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler
By Mike Smith
Triple H, Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler promo
Triple H began addressing why the entire WWE Universe is asking “why?”. He starts with Daniel Bryan being stripped of the title. They replayed the video of his doctor, and Triple H said that the Universe is the reason Bryan’s no longer champion. Triple H said they stripped Bryan for the fans, because they deserve a fighting champion. He talked about the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank Match. He hyped the four participants, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Cesaro and Randy Orton, and said that three more names are to come. Triple H said he can’t guarantee “magic” often, but he can guarantee something historic will happen at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
Then, he addressed the other “why?”, why Seth Rollins turned on The Shield. He then introduced Rollins as “the future of the WWE”. Rollins came out in a grey suit with a black shirt underneath, as he seems to be slowly moving away from the all black colors he has worn for a year and a half. Triple H said everybody knows why Rollins did it, and asked him how it felt. Rollins then relived the moment when he struck Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose with a chair on Raw over a week ago. He said Reigns and Ambrose owe everything they have to him. He said they are destined for mediocrity, just like the fans, because they don’t have the guts to do something like Rollins did. He said Triple H has the guts, and they both know what it takes to accomplish something. Rollins said he “adapted and evolved”. He called Reigns and Ambrose “dead weight” and he had to get rid of them. He thanked Triple H for the opportunity, but was interrupted by Ziggler.
Ziggler said there are plenty of people like Rollins who will cheat to get ahead, but he has a chip on his shoulder and uses that to prove he’s the best. He said he’s going to show everybody what it means to be a WWE Superstar, and he’s going to do it “without an ego-maniacal boss holding my hand”.
These opening segments that they have been doing on Main Event recently are really awesome. They set up the main event really well. This one was no different. Triple H, Rollins and Ziggler all killed it.
Jimmy Uso vs. Luke Harper
Jimmy rolled Harper up after a superkick for the win. Pretty good match. This feels much more drawn out then what’s happening with John Cena and Bray Wyatt. I don’t think anybody in The Wyatt Family needs a title, but it’s time for Harper and Erick Rowan to either get the titles, or get away from The Usos.
Kofi Kingston pre-taped promo/Lana promo/Kofi Kingston vs. Rusev
Kofi talked about Rusev making a good living in the country that him and Lana keep putting down. He said he came from Ghana because America is about chasing your dreams. He said it’s time for Rusev to shut up or go home.
Lana talked about American women thinking they make decisions. He called American women “prisoners of your own desires”. She talked about her natural look, compared to “fat” Americans. She said that American men desire her, but Russian men are stronger and more desirable. Her promos are so bad recently. She delivers them so well, but the message in them is so weak.
Kofi tapped out to The Accolade in a match that focused mainly on the relationship between Rusev and Lana, as Lana could be heard giving him instructions almost the whole match.
Summer Rae w/ Renee Young
Renee asked Summer about her issues with Layla. Summer said she didn’t have a problem with Layla running around with her “leftovers”, but wasn’t happy that Layla seemed so intent on rubbing Summer’s face in it. Layla came out of nowhere and took Summer out with a box of kitty litter. Layla poured the kitty litter all over Summer, she then did the same with a bottle of milk. Something’s building here, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in seeing this match.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins
Rollins won a really good match with a curb stomp. Truly solid main event to end an awesome show.
Overall Impression
I really enjoyed this episode of Main Event. The opening promo was really good, and the main event match was awesome. It’s a really fun hour of wrestling. This show is pretty great every week, but this week in particular is definitely worth a watch if you missed it.
