Farewell Wyatt Family

Wyatts vs Shield

With the Wyatt Family seemingly “being set free” as Bray puts it, I thought since WWE isn’t really giving them a fitting farewell, I would do the honours myself with a few eerie memories.

Wyatts vs Shield

Where would be a better place to start than with this all out war. This was a rivalry that turned out to be a dream booking for WWE and us fans.

With all the commotion and aftermath of The Shield split, compared to the seemingly passive split of The Wyatts, you would be forgiven for thinking the shield was a much more dominant faction. This wasn’t quite the case.

In fact, The Wyatt Family definitely managed to put cracks in The Shield as Rollins and Reigns started to question Ambrose. Every time these two dominant factions went head to head, there was one guarantee, bodies would be littered around the ring. However, when the dust settled, it would be The Wyatts left standing.

Daniel Wyatt

Now let’s move on to The Wyatts conquest to bring Daniel Bryan into the cult. This was another good storyline and judging by most of our reactions WWE’s plan was played out to perfection.

Firstly, we had the normal back and forth of a WWE rivalry, The Wyatts would cost Bryan a win, Bryan would then retaliate, so on and so forth. Then just as we thought it might get stale, WWE took a big risk when they eventually had Bryan join the faction. The weeks passed and most of them ended with the new follower being sacrificed with Sister Abigail.

Then came that steel cage match against The Uso’s. Jimmy and Jey managed to find a way to escape the cage and win the match, much to the displeasure of Bray. When it looked like there was about to be another routine sacrifice, Bryan jumped ship and attacked the cult leader, a running high knee later and Daniel Bryan was sat atop the cage leading arguably the most emphatic YES chant of his career. It was at this point it was clear, WWE’s risk had paid off with resounding success.

John Cena The Monster

Finally we move on to another great feud, however this is probably the one that started Bray Wyatt’s untimely decline. Their rivalry to turn Mr Hustle Loyalty Respect into a monster.

This one again started similarly to The Bryan rivalry, Wyatts cost Cena matches and title shots while Cena retaliates. However, because these two can carry a promo, it gave this feud an edge. The two went back and forth for weeks using their promo ability to involve the fans as well putting on some decent matches.

You would think all this culminates in a huge Wrestlemania moment for ‘The Eater Of Worlds’, sadly we know that not to be the case. Of course, this match should have ended one of two ways, Bray conquers Cena or John wraps that steel chair clean round Wyatts’ head and becomes the monster to win. Again, regretfully Cena picked up the win and Bray Wyatt slipped down the pecking order.

Maybe WWE has plans for Bray down the line but I don’t see Harper or Rowan being that relevant going forward, which is a shame as they showed they could put on some memorable matches.

All in all we will look back at The Wyatt Family as one of the greatest factions but do so with a hint of curiosity at what might have been.

Did I choose the best examples? Which moments would you have chosen? Let me know in the comments section.
