WWE Rumors: Will Return Of Injured Stars Help Programming?
wwe.com
Over the course of the past six months, WWE has been bit by the injury bug.
In the past, WWE was usually able to overcome the sting of the bite because the bug would only impact one wrestler. That has not been the case over the past six months for WWE. Over that time, WWE has lost the likes of Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Bad News Barrett, and to a lesser degree, Ryback.

Ryback’s injury impacted the WWE Tag Team division but has far less of an impact than injuries that Bryan, Reigns, and Barrett suffered.
The reason why the injuries to Bryan, Reigns, and Barrett were so devastating is because all three of the superstars were blossoming towards stardom.
After an incredible Wrestlemania booking with The Authority, Bryan finally won the WWE World Heavyweight title. Unfortunately, for Bryan, his title reign was a disappointment due to unfortunate circumstances. Bryan continues to recover from neck surgery and the latest is that the leader of the “Yes” movement will need to undergo Tommy John Surgery. If Bryan does undergo Tommy John Surgery, then the former champion would be out until Wrestlemania season. Though, as of now, Bryan’s injuries are so severe that the WWE Creative team are not even factoring him into any of their decisions.
With Bryan out, there was an accelerated push for Reigns. Reigns was then hyped as the man to go against The Authority and it was a successful booking as Randy Orton put over Reigns at SummerSlam. Reigns then set his sights on his former Shield ‘brother’ Seth Rollins and the two were set to face each other at Night of Champions. Unfortunately, the weekend of Night of Champions, Reigns was forced to undergo emergency hernia surgery. Reigns is in recovery and is expected to return in time for the Royal Rumble.
Then there is Barrett. Unlike Bryan or Reigns, Barrett was not necessarily in the main event picture at the time of his injury. That being said, the Bad News Barrett character was quickly gaining steam and Barrett’s work on the microphone was excellent. Barrett was holding the Intercontinental championship at the time of his shoulder injury. Barrett’s run as intercontinental champion was meant to be a stepping stone for Barrett to reach main event status. Unfortunately, the shoulder injury halted those plans. Fortunately, Barrett is expected to return within the next two months.
There is no question that the return of the injured WWE superstars will help programming. Though, the concern is what will WWE do until those superstars return.
