Who challenges for the mid-card titles next?

Last night at the Hell in a Cell PPV, we saw Dolph Ziggler defeat Cesaro to retain the Intercontinental Championship and Sheamus defeat The Miz to retain the United States Championship. With both of those competitors out of the picture – where do they go next?

An ideal candidate for Sheamus would be Rusev. His program with the Big Show appears to be over (thankfully), so he will be moving on. It also helps that the Bulgarian Brute going for the US title would make all the sense in the world.

I’ve heard many say that he could take the title at Survivor Series and rename it the “Russian Championship,” which would be taking a page out of Lance Storm’s playbook. Rusev would immediately make the title relevant. How long you keep it on him is another story, but that could be dealt with down the line.

As for Ziggler, I could really see Luke Harper or Erick Rowan step up as a challenger now that Bray Wyatt has returned. Since they’re being “set free,” they could be pursuing anyone. The Showoff is a prime candidate that is in need of a fresh challenger after disposing Cesaro last night. If I had to choose, I would say Harper would be the one to challenge him.

We shall see what happens.
