Curtis Axel

Previously Michael McGillicutty when he finished runner-up on NXT Season 2, Curtis Axel might benefit from the revamped version of the show. This time last year he had barely lost the Intercontinental Championship to Big E, and was a Paul Heyman client. In the past twelve months he has been essentially a non-entity, teaming with Ryback in the admittedly awesome name of RybAxel. However, the team spent most of its time together as glorified jobbers to the Usos and the Shield. Axel has been shelved until last night’s Main Event with injury, but there is little guarantee that this will be any more successful than when he left.

Axel could be a prominent heel in NXT. As the son of Mr. Perfect, he could claim that his blood makes him more valuable to the show than any of those that made their way through the independents. Axel could refuse to fight certain superstars he considers ‘beneath him’ for this purpose, and use this heel heat to push for the NXT Championship. His wrestling skill is certainly there, and NXT could provide him with a comfortable environment to hone in his promo skills.
