WWE TLC Predictions: John Cena vs. Seth Rollins (Tables Match)
By Mike Smith
At Sunday’s WWE TLC event, John Cena will take on Seth Rollins in a Tables Match. If Cena loses, he will lose his spot as #1 Contender to Brock Lesnar’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Cena and Rollins have been intertwined, one way or another, for months. At WWE Money in the Bank, the same night Rollins climbed a ladder to become Mr. Money in the Bank, Cena climbed a ladder to grab the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
While Rollins was busy feuding with Dean Ambrose, Cena began a feud with the rest of The Authority, one that eventually led to Triple H enacting “Plan C,” which ended in Lesnar decimating Cena for the title at WWE SummerSlam.
At WWE Night of Champions, Cena looked like he might have Lesnar beat, but Rollins came in, broke up the pin, and tried to cash in his title shot. He would have been successful, especially after his Curb Stomp to Lesnar, but Cena refused to let that happen. Cena has called that attempted cash-in the stupidest thing that Rollins has ever done.
At WWE Hell in a Cell, Rollins beat Ambrose, with help from Bray Wyatt, while Cena became #1 Contender by beating Randy Orton.
Then, WWE Survivor Series saw them captain two teams against each other in the main event. Cena wouldn’t play much of a role, while Rollins made it to the end, before Sting helped the Lone Survivor, Dolph Ziggler, eliminate him.
Now at TLC, the two finally get to one-on-one with each other on PPV, likely in the main event. The question about this match is: Which Superstars will make their presence felt? The answer to that will be the deciding factor in this one.
Daily DDT’s Rob Wolkenbrod, Callum Wiggins, Brain Rzeppa, Carl Gac, and Mike Smith have their predictions:
Rob’s Take: This match would probably be good either way, but with the added stipulation of John Cena’s #1 contender-ship for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship being on the line, it adds some intrigue to the match. Seth Rollins still has the Money in the Bank briefcase, so he will eventually be competing for the title either way.
That leads me to think that Cena will end up coming away victorious. “Backstage workers” will think that Rollins can afford the loss, so Cena will go over. Randy Orton will probably show up too and cost Rollins the match, so it will still be an entertaining one.
Rob’s Prediction: John Cena
Callum’s Take: The two captains of last month’s elimination tag team match square off in a Tables Match, and Cena’s #1 Contender spot is on the line. Therefore, the outcome of the result will depend wholly on whether they are still looking to have Brock Lesnar defend the WWE Championship against Cena at Royal Rumble. If that is still the plan, then obviously Cena will once again overcome his rival and send him through a table.
That is what I expect to happen. Despite the fact that Rollins has been on a huge roll in PPV single matches throughout 2014, when somebody goes up against Cena those statistics often go out the window. There will be some interference from J&J Security, with both members likely to go through tables of their own, but Cena should be in the title match of Royal Rumble to keep him out of the Rumble Match and bring a firm conclusion to his feud with the Beast.
Callum’s Prediction: John Cena
Brian’s Take: This isn’t as cut and dry as most other matches involving Cena, because there’s multiple ways that WWE could take this match. Ultimately, however, I think that we will be in for a surprise return that costs Mr. Money In The Bank this match, which will set up a feud for the next few months.
After being out since prior to Survivor Series, I expect that Randy Orton will make his much anticipated return and impact the ending of this match. This will be payback for Rollins hitting the Curb Stomp on him and putting him out of action. Cena will keep his #1 Contender status, for better or worse.
Brian’s Take: John Cena
Carl’s Take: Without doubt Cena is being readied for another match with Brock Lesnar for the title at the Royal Rumble. This match is a good way to build him towards that match next month. Rollins still has his hands on that MITB brief case and I still think Cena will beat Brock for the title, then Rollins will cash in his shot and take the title from the company’s main man. I can also see Randy Orton getting involved in some way in this match, maybe costing one man the match with a ref bump/distraction and then putting Rollins through a table to help Cena get the win.
Carl’s Prediction: John Cena
Mike’s Take: I believe that Cena is going to win this match. I believe that Randy Orton is not an option to face Lesnar for the title, because Orton doesn’t want to wrestle Lesnar. That being said, let me throw out a crazy idea that I haven’t heard suggested yet:
The match is nearing its end. Rollins and Cena are both in a precarious situation, when Orton comes out. The crowd gives him the return pop, especially since he went out as a face. Orton looks as if he’s going to help Cena, but instead helps Rollins, ending Cena’s run as #1 Contender.
The next night on Raw, Orton is named the new #1 Contender, and he wrestles Lesnar at Royal Rumble.
I don’t think that’s going to happen, but since most people think that Orton is going to help Cena and start feuding with Rollins, I thought I might throw out an idea that would be a huge swerve, and something that a lot of fans would like to see, but most importantly, it would make sense.
I’d love to see them do it, but I think that we’re going to see Cena come out on top, with no interference, so he looks his strongest heading into Royal Rumble.
Don’t worry about Rollins, as long as it’s done properly, there’s no shame in losing to Cena, and there’s plenty of ways to build him up for a potential cash-in at Royal Rumble.
Mike’s Prediction: John Cena
