On July 3, 2009, Edge suffered a torn Achilles tendon during a non-televised match and was scheduled to miss up to a year of action.

During that span, Chris Jericho was his tag team partner and the two won the Unified Tag Team titles and were destined to dominated as champs.

Edge‘s injury threw a wrench into those plans and Jericho dominated the title scene, winning another tag team title with Big Show and winning the World Heavyweight Championship during Edge‘s absence.

At the Royal Rumble in January 2010, Edge shockingly returned at No. 29 in the Royal Rumble and won the right for a title match at WrestleMania XXVI. Edge would choose none other than Chris Jericho, after Y2J won a World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber match in February.

The two stars put on quite a show at WrestleMania in a 15+ minute match of hard-hitting action, won by Jericho after a title belt shot and a Codebreaker, ending Edge‘s nine-month journey back to the top.
