8. World War 3 – Becomes WCW Champion

Randy Savage did not have as memorable a run in WCW as his stint in WWE by any stretch of the imagination. From joining in as essentially a carbon copy of his time in WWE, to becoming one of the many that became part of the nWo, Savage simply didn’t carry the same prevalence in his new surroundings as he did in the late 1980’s. Injuries and poor booking derailed his time with the company, and it ended in 2000 in unspectacular fashion. But he had some excellent matches and a great extended feud with Ric Flair, as well as reaching the top of WCW.

This would happen for the first time at World War 3, with the WCW Championship vacated by the Giant prior to the event. In this 60-man battle royal that was a direct rip-off of the Royal Rumble in WWE, Savage became the World Champion for the first time by outlasting essentially everybody the roster had to offer. Of course, this was somewhat tarnished by the fact that Hulk Hogan was not technically eliminated, and touted that point to take some of the sheen off of the title victory. But, it was the first of four title victories that places him among the elite in that company’s history.
