John Cena’s Open Challenge

Before Cena could speak a full sentence, “OLE” chants started up. He asks if Montreal would want him to quit (referring to his “I Quit” match at Payback), to which the fans chanted in excitement.

Cena says this match against Rusev will be their last.

While all this was going on, Cena would be taunted with Sami Zayn chants.

Cena calls out a challenger, to which Bret Hart comes out. He begins to say he’s about to introduce the challenger, until Heath Slater comes out.

Slater says he’s not going to have his chance ruined again for the US Championship. He begins talking about how many have attacked him from behind.

Hart then introduces the challenger…Sami Zayn!

WWE United States Championship Match
John Cena (c) vs. Sami Zayn

Result: John Cena defeats Sami Zayn via pinfall to retain the WWE United States Championship.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (for the overall segment)

Zayn started off by sending Cena immediately out of the ring. However, after taking a suplex from Cena, he landed bad on his left shoulder. The doctors looked at it, but let him go on.

As Cena went for the five-knuckle shuffle, Zayn went for the quick roll up! But Cena kicked out at two.

Cena put Zayn into the STF, but Sami grabbed the ropes. He put him into a koji clutch, but Mr. HLR got out of it.

Cena would try going for the AA, but Zayn got out of it.

As Cena was outside of the ring, Zayn set up and hit his trademark DDT through the ropes. Shades of his match with Cesaro at NXT ArRival!

Cena would then get Zayn up for an AA and hit it. But the former NXT Champion kicked out! He would then hit the blue thunderbomb! But Cena kicked out.

Cena would quickly hit the springboard stunner and the AA for the win.

The loss doesn’t matter one bit. Sami Zayn received an awesome moment by being able to have his first significant match on the main roster.
