Another summer spectacular emanating from Madison Square Garden, and inside wrestling’s most famous venue two future World Champions stole the show. Much like Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon years ago, this was a breakout Ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship. The participants, Triple H and the Rock, would go on to have a remarkable WWE title feud in later years, but this contest undoubtedly showcased the geneses of their chemistry. This match of the night was well supported by the main event clash between Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Undertaker, which was immensely physical.

These were able to supersede the lowest moment on the card, with the Oddities defeating Kaientai in a handicap match in a comedy feud that had nobody laughing. The remainder of the card thankfully sat in between these two spectrums, with a unique Lion’s Den battle between Ken Shamrock and Owen Hart an interesting sight. The New Age Outlaws beat Mankind in a handicap match to become Tag Team Champions once again, and Jeff Jarrett lost his blonde flowing locks in a Hair vs Hair match with X-Pac. An overall solid show highlighted by the final two bouts to ensure the fans left satisfied.
