Larry the Cable Guy

In November of 2014, WWE welcomed Larry the Cable Guy to Monday Night Raw. Apparently “Jingle All the Way” was worth a sequel, but a much lesser, straight-to-DVD kind of sequel. Enter Larry the Cable Guy and his costar Santino Marella. While you would think Larry would carry the segment since he is the national, mainstream performer, he was pretty much the fat kid in dodgeball who seemed to get himself out.

What Daniel Whitney (Larry’s non-kayfabe name) didn’t realize is you can’t parody wrestling on a wrestling show. So while it was fun to hear a King Kong Bundy reference, smart fans, casual fans, and people with general common sense, knew that the shtick wasn’t flying. The key to being a successful guest host is to take it seriously and not try to create a Saturday Night Live skit about wrestling… unless you’re The Rock.

Sorry Larry, I don’t want cable anymore. I’ll just use Netflix and Hulu.
