8. Chris Jericho vs. Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental Championship, 2008

Along with an odd appearance from Trevor Cade and a surprising run-in from Shawn Michaels, Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho’s secret opponent turned out to be the up-and-coming Kofi Kingston at the 2008 Night of Champions pay-per-view.

In the 11-minute encounter, Jericho and Kingston went back-and-forth, and the action told a good story. The pace was quick, the action was fun, and the finish was perfect. Michaels found his way through the crowd, attacked Cade at ringside, and distracted Jericho enough for Kingston to recover and hit the Trouble in Paradise for his first title victory in WWE.

Not only did Jericho drop the title to a fresh new star (who was recently promoted to the Monday Night Raw roster), the rivalry with Michaels could continue throughout 2008.
