No. 1 Contender’s Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena vs. Randy Orton

Result: John Cena defeated Randy Orton via pinfall to become the No. 1 Contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Rating: 3.2 out of 5 stars

What happened?

Not surprisingly, Cena would defeat Orton to become the new No. 1 Contender for Brock Lesnar’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Cena had lost the title to Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam and the rematch at Night of Champions.

Did this match have any implications after the PPV?

Cena would go onto lead a team into Survivor Series to face Team Authority and face Seth Rollins at TLC in a tables match.

Lesnar would return in Jan. and Cena would face him in a triple threat match for the WWE WHC with Rollins included. The bout would go onto be a Match of the Year candidate with Lesnar retaining.

Orton would end up beginning a feud with Rollins. The Architect put him out of action with multiple Curb Stomps in early Nov. that would keep Orton out until Feb., when he returned to set up a WrestleMania 31 match. The Viper would win their bout.
