Result: Neville def. Barrett via pinfall (Red Arrow).
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
We get a recap of Barrett getting slapped by Wayne Rooney, which was a fantastic bit of cross promotion for WWE.
Neville starts the match by trading pin attempts with Barrett. Neville gets draped over the top rope, and Barrett grabs Neville by the hair and slams the back of his head to the mat. Barrett comes ot the outside and tosses Neville into the barricade as we head to break.
Back from commercial and Neville is beginning to mount a comeback. Barrett stops Neville in his track and hits a big boot to Neville that knocks him to the outside. Barrett goes for the Winds of Change, but Neville reverses it into a pin attempt for a two count.
Barrett tosses Neville clear out of the ring and into the barricade. Barrett points at the title at ringside and starts running his mouth about being the next champ. Neville sneaks up, running across the top of the barricade and dives onto Barrett. Neville tosses Barrett into the barricade and hits Barrett with a standing shooting star press for a two count.
Barrett catches Neville with a sharp kick to the gut, but each of the three times he pins Neville he manages to kick out. Neville dodges Barrett and hits the bridging german suplex for a two count. Barrett connects with a Winds of Change, also for a two count. Barrett sets up for the Bullhammer, but misses. Neville connects with a DDT, follows it up with the Red Arrow and gets the pinfall victory.
Evan’s Note: Neville is the smart choice to move on, as he and Owens will put on a wrestling clinic in the second round. Neville and Barrett isn’t a fresh matchup as they’ve met many times before, but this was their best matchup to date. The match was exciting, had Neville and Barrett hitting different unique spots and really told a good story.
