Who could make a surprise appearance in this year’s Royal Rumble?

The Royal Rumble is undoubtedly one of the most fun pay-per-views of the whole year. Most people would agree it’s right behind WrestleMania as the one they look forward to the most. And while we can usually narrow it down to about 3 or 4 guys who have a legitimate chance to win, the excitement that maybe, just maybe, someone unexpected could win it is what really draws us in.

Aside from the winner getting to main-event WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble also provides the best annual venue for surprise returns. There’s nothing better than a few guys battling it out in the ring only for you to hear the music of a guy you haven’t seen or heard of in months, sometimes longer.

Last year we had Bubba Ray Dudley, The Boogeyman, and Diamond Dallas Paige all show up to the Rumble out of nowhere, joining the likes of The Godfather, Kevin Nash, and countless other surprise entrants to appear in the last few years. Anyone from legends to NXT superstars to commentators are fair game to enter the Rumble in any given year, so it begs the obvious question. Who could show up this year?
