7) Sycho Sid – WrestleMania 13 (1997)
While his first WWE Championship was claimed in 1991 over Hulk Hogan, it was a short lived reign before Hogan would reclaim the title only a week or so later. Years would pass before the Undertaker would get another shot at the title in 1997 at WrestleMania 13 – against a very different champion in Sycho Sid.
Sid had just defeated Bret “the Hitman” Hart a little more than a month prior to be the champion who would have to face the man that Hart had defeated for the vacated championship. It was an intriguing matchup because Undertaker came out to help Sid because that was the man he wanted to face for the championship.
The Deadman got what he wanted and the fans received a chance to see the Undertaker truly take over as the WWE Champion; even if the main event received some mixed reviews from wrestling writers. But it was a long match where Undertaker was given a test by the powerful Sycho Sid. It’s on the list because of the important the match had early in Undertaker’s WWE career as he would hold the championship for almost five months.
It was actually one of Sid’s better matches and it unfortunately went downhill from there.
