What happened when Austin Aries made his in-ring debut against Baron Corbin at NXT TakeOver: Dallas?
There isn’t much of a story behind the match between Baron Corbin and Austin Aries, but there hasn’t been any reason for it. Corbin, who has been on fire since defeating Apollo Crews in London, wrecked Aries’ in-ring debut, citing frustration for being kept out of the title picture. This was a big deal because Aries, a former TNA and ROH World Champion with huge international clout, was a major addition to the NXT roster.
Aries hasn’t done much in retaliation other than to accept Corbin’s challenge for tonight, while the “Lone Wolf” has continued to talk a very big game. Can he defeat Aries, the self-professed “greatest man that ever lived”?
Corbin was forced headed to the ring, dressed more like a refugee from Mad Max: Fury Road than ever, wearing the actual spin of a lone wolf.

Aries got off to an early start but he was quickly overmatched by the size of Corbin. But Aries showed why he’s faced and beaten opponents bigger than him his entire career, knocking him out of the ring and going right to the top rope.

Corbin managed to regain control and began putting the bad mouth to Aries while pummeling him, showing no respect for who he deems just another indie wrestler. Aries’ speed doesn’t appear to be any match for Corbin’s power, who exchanges words with the crowd while hitting him with repeated clotheslines.
Aries finally turns things around with a slingshot ax handle to the apron, followed by a neckbreaker.

He followed it up with a missile dropkick and a corner dropkick, then a suicide dive to the outside. But Corbin was smart, and used Aries’ momentum to hit him with the Deep Six on the outside!

Aries barely gets back to the ring before the 10-count, and is not ready to give up yet. He’s the greatest man that ever lived! Think he’s gonna quit?

Corbin obliges and goes for the End of Days, but Aries reversed it and scored the surprise rollup pinfall!

Trav’s Thoughts: Average match. Aries didn’t get to show off the arsenal we expect from him, while Corbin was protected by controlling most of the offense. It’s clear they’re setting this up for a long feud so expect better things from these two in the future.
