WWE NXT Review: Results, Analysis, and Grades for May 4; Samoa Joe vs. Eric Young
By Bryan Heaton
Austin Aries vs. Tye Dillinger
Result: Austin Aries defeated Tye Dillinger via pinfal
Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars
Aries defeated Baron Corbin in his debut at TakeOver, then continued his winning ways against Angelo Dawkins. Dillinger is coming off a loss to Shinsuke Nakamura, looking to get back to his winning ways.
Turning Points: After getting Aries down to the mat, Dillinger showed why they call him The Perfect 10. Aries was not amused.
A big backbreaker put Aries down for a bit, as Dillinger built some momentum.
Aries kept trying to come back, and Dillinger worked him over with some powerful chops.
Not to be outdone, Aries retaliated with his own chops.
Aries sent Dillinger to the outside, and followed up with a corkscrew plancha to the outside.
A dropkick in the corner set Dillinger up for Aries to hit a 450 splash for the victory.
Bryan’s Thoughts: First off, props to Tye Dillinger for getting the chance to have a way more even match than I would have figured against Aries. That fireman’s carry neckbreaker was sick looking, and when Dillinger finally gets a chance to shine I hope that becomes his finisher – WWE not uploading that move in GIF form is brutal, make sure you go back and watch that.
As far as Aries, I’m glad he has upped the finisher game. During his television debut, my criticism was that the rolling forearm/elbow was kind of weak-looking, and while it may have been okay to beat Angelo Dawkins it wouldn’t seem impressive enough for the majority of opponents. A 450 splash, though? Much better.
