5. Rusev

Through all of 2014 and well into 2015, Rusev was THE heel in the WWE. Period, point blank. The Bulgarian Brute, alongside the ravishing Lana, ran roughshod over every opponent who crossed his path. For more than a year Rusev went undefeated, never sustaining a single pinfall loss, and during that time, he also managed to win the United States Championship. Unfortunately, that also put him in John Cena’s crosshairs.

Rusev’s anti-American spiel saw him taking on every WWE superstar looking to defend the good of’ US of A. Of course, this meant beating Jack Swagger every week for about three months, but he also defeated a number of other wannabe patriots. Eventually, Cena got tired of Rusev slamming the red white and blue, and challenged him to a match at WrestleMania 31.

Do you really think Cena is going to lose to Rusev on the greatest spectacle of all?

Of course not. Cena won, taking the U.S. title in the process. That wasn’t the problem. Rusev looked strong in defeat and lost because of a Lana screw-up. It was the three straight losses he took from Cena afterwards that destroyed his credibility as a dominant force. The once unstoppable Russian bear was relegated to a disastrous beef with Dolph Ziggler over Lana’s heart, followed by a stint in the groan-worthy League of Nations. Rusev is starting to recover now, but it’s taken him more than a year to do it. Nice work, Cena.
