“The Phenomenal One” takes on “The Face Who Runs the Place” at WWE Money in the Bank, who came out the victor?
A match that has been promoted as “15 years in the making” John Cena will be taking on AJ Styles this Sunday at Money in the Bank. This will mark the first match between both wrestlers and was set off when AJ Styles tricked Cena into thinking he was happily returning for the former WWE champion back to Raw.
During their promo, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows interrupted and initially, it looked like Styles would stand side-by-side with Cena, but instead sucker punched him, officially forming The Club in the process. Will Cena be able to shake off the ring rust and defeat a rising Styles? Let’s find out what went down!

AJ Styles out first and received a nice reaction by the crowd. Cena out next, to mostly cheers from the Las Vegas crowd.
After plenty of back and forth action, Cena goes for a taunt early on and gets popped in the face by Styles.
Cena tries to get the upper hand, but AJ continues to avoid a bunch of Cena’s moves, here he avoids the steps and promptly gets back into the ring. Crowd is very much split in this one cheering for both men.
AJ started to get a real head of steam in this one, including this forearm to the outside.
Styles crashed and burned on a second high flying move to the outside, back in the ring, he went for a forearm and Cena was able to counter it into the STFU.
Cena nearly got the AA on Styles, but he was able to reverse it into a Calf Crusher!
Styles found himself in yet another AA, trying to elbow his way out of it, Cena powered up and landed it, getting only a two count.
Styles Clash, but this is Cena and he kicks out at 2.
Springboard 450 splash by Styles, but Cena gets his knees up.
Ref gets knocked down during an AA attempt, in runs Gallows and Anderson and they land a Magic Killer on Cena. They pull Styles on top of Cena and an unaware referee counts the 1-2-3.
Beautifully paced match between these two guys with Styles showing he definitely deserves to be in the ring against Cena. Styles was on fire for most of the match and Cena (for the most part) was able to keep up with him. With the controversial ending, this one is clearly not over yet. Didn’t love the ref bump/interference to end the match, but it easily allows for at least one more rematch, and that’s not a bad thing.
