At WWE Money in the Bank, Roman Reigns faced Seth Rollins with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line, what happened in the match?
Roman Reigns has held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship since November 2015. He managed to get his hands on the title when the reigning champion, Seth Rollins, was forced to vacate the title after suffering a massive knee injury during a house show match with Kane.
Last month at Extreme Rules, immediately following Reigns’ title match victory against AJ Styles, Rollins made his return after seven months out from that knee injury. Almost immediately, this match between the current and former champions was announced for Money in the Bank.

After a pretty epic pre-match video compilation, Rollins came out to a massive reaction from the Las Vegas crowd. Reigns, on the other hand, heard the boos rain down on him, i guess we know which side the fans in attendance are on.
The opening minutes saw both men sizing each other up, Reigns has the power advantage, Rollins has the speed and quickness. Rollins got the advantage, hitting a drop kick, sending Reigns outside the ring, before hitting a dive to the outside. Reigns countered Rollins speed with a Samoan drop, then went after the former champ with big punches. Rollins attempted to up the pace, but was hit with a flying clothesline.
Reigns talked trash to Rollins in the corner, then hit his lame looking forearms in the corner, a big slam finally took Rollins down for a two count. Reigns began to mock Rollins’ injured knee, Rollins hit big slaps and kicks, only to be sent outside the ring from the top rope.
Outside the ring Rollins was thrown over the Spanish announce table, then found himself driven face first into the English announce table. Reigns tried to make advantage on the floor, but was driven into the ring steps. Rollins went to the top rope but was caught into a Razors Edge into a Power Bomb for a two count.
Reigns went for the Superman Punch but Rollins countered and was driven into the turnbuckle. A stunned Reigns then ate a big kick and was drop kicked out of the ring, then hit with a couple of big dives to the floor. Back in the ring, Rollins got a two count after hitting a Slingblade.
Reigns hit a Superman punch after countering a Pedigree from Rollins, but again could only get a two count. Reigns countered a Spear attempt with a big knee, hit a couple more knees then got a two following a Frog Splash. Rollins went to the top again but was caught with a big right hand, Rollins looked to be setting up something from the top rope, eventually hitting a corner Power Bomb into a two count. Rollins had erased the demons of his knee injury by hitting that move.
Rollins hit big forearms in the corner, Reigns pushed him off the top rope twice then Rollins managed to hit a SuperPlex then a Falcons Arrow, but still could only get a two count. Reigns somehow managed to hit a one armed Power Bomb again for a two count. With both men on their knees they traded big punches, Rollins got the better of it with kicks then hit a turnbuckle Power Bomb. Reigns countered with the Superman Punch, two count again.
With both men down, the crowd began to chant “We Want Ambrose”. Rollins crawled out of the ring, Reigns charged at him but only managed to Spear the ringside barricade. The doctors came out at the request of the referee, with Reigns unable to get back up properly. Rollins attacked and dragged him back into the ring. Rollins set up the pedigree, Reigns drove him back into the referee, then hit a Spear. Only a two count from the recovered ref.
Rollins countered the Spear into a Pedigree (!?!) but could still only get two. Another Pedigree saw Rollins get the three count to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship!!
BUT WOW, here comes Dean Ambrose to cash in through the crowd, he hits Rollins with the briefcase and then cashes in!!
A groggy Rollins is hit with the Dirty Deeds and Dean Ambrose is your second new WWE World Heavyweight Champion of the night. He said he was going to do it on Raw, and he kept that promise.
Ambrose stands on the announce desk, as Michael Cole screams “He’s the Champ, he’s the Champ”. Dean Ambrose, The Lunatic Fringe is the top man in WWE, what a night for Ambrose.
