WWE Draft 2016 Results: Complete Raw Roster
By Juan Herrera
Now that the WWE Draft is over, let’s take a closer look at Monday Night Raw’s complete roster.
With the very first pick of the WWE Draft, Raw general manager Mick Foley and Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon chose to bring Seth Rollins to Raw. It was definitely an interesting decision to draft Rollins before other stars like John Cena or WWE Champion Dean Ambrose. All things considered, Rollins is a very talented star who has the potential to be the face of the company someday.
After Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon drafted Dean Ambrose to SmackDown with the second pick, Foley and Stephanie decided to draft WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte to Raw with the third pick. By drafting Charlotte to Raw, it is likely that the WWE Women’s title will become exclusive to Raw. It will be interesting to see how this decision impacts the future of the WWE’s women’s division.

Foley and Stephanie followed up this pick by drafting NXT superstar Finn Balor to Monday Night Raw with the fifth pick. Balor was one of NXT’s top stars, so it was only a matter of time before he would be called up to the main roster.
As great of a pick as Balor was, Raw’s next two picks in the draft left a lot of fans scratching their heads. With the sixth and eighth pick of the draft, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar were selected to become a part of Raw.
As most people may already know, Reigns was suspended from the WWE for 30 days on June 21st, after he violated the company’s wellness policy. Lesnar has also been at the center of controversy recently after it was announced that he had failed two drug tests before his fight against Mark Hunt at UFC 200. On top of that, Lesnar is also a part-timer who is only available to perform a limited number of times.
It is still unclear how the WWE will handle Lesnar’s current situation and we still don’t really know what the future holds for Roman Reigns, so drafting these two stars this early on was really unexpected.
Raw’s next few picks however, made a lot more sense moving forward. With their next three picks, Foley and Stephanie McMahon selected the current WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day, Sami Zayn and Sasha Banks. The New Day are one of the most popular tag teams in the WWE and they also bring the tag titles with them to Raw.
Both Sami Zayn and Sasha Banks are two of the hottest stars on the main roster. Zayn is one of the best workers in the ring and will likely continue his feud with Kevin Owens, who was also drafted to Raw later on in the night. With Sasha Banks on Raw, the WWE will also be able to build up her feud with current women’s champion Charlotte.
The next few rounds of the draft gave Foley and Stephanie McMahon an opportunity to add depth to Raw’s roster. With their next five picks, Raw’s GM and COO selected current United States Champion Rusev with Lana, The Club, Chris Jericho, Enzo and Cass and The Big Show.
Rusev is a great heel and really fun to watch. Bringing him to Raw also makes the U.S. title exclusive to the show, so that should be interesting. Raw’s other picks like Enzo and Cass and The Club are interesting selections. Enzo and Cass are one of the most entertaining tag teams the WWE has ever had, so it’s possible that the duo will get a shot at the tag titles sometime in the near future.
With The Club on Raw and AJ Styles on SmackDown, there is a chance that we could see Finn Balor take over as leader of The Club. A partnership between The Club and Balor in the WWE would definitely be interesting and similar to what they had in Japan.
Some of the more interesting picks for Raw in the later rounds of the draft include Nia Jax from NXT, Neville, Cesaro, Paige, Darren Young with Bob Backlund, Sheamus and Titus O’Neil.
The remaining stars that were drafted to Raw in the later rounds were the Golden Truth, Sin Cara, Jack Swagger, The Dudley Boyz, Summer Rae, Mark Henry, Braun Strowman, Bo Dallas, the Shining Stars, Alicia Fox, Dana Brooke and Curtis Axel.
